Trip Advisor is a collection of opinions, and sometimes those with an ax to grind post more often than those who are happy with the service. Hey, FP really is more about what lies outside your four walls or outside the resort than what lies within (except for HM'rs).

we stayed at the pearl last june for our honeymoon in a garden bungalow with plunge pool. our bungalow was very clean and neat. it didnt appear to be old or in need of an upgrade. it had a nice shower, flat screen tv and dvd player and nice backyard.
there are so many resturants that will pick you up from the pearl for free. we were there 5 nights and only at lunch at the hotel once. other then that we were out for lunch and dinner each day.
enjoy!!

Thanks for all the responses. We have kept with our original plan and will stay at the Pearl. I agree that reviews on TP can be misleading, but just wanted to confirm our choice with those who have spent time at the Pearl. Only breakfast is included with our room rate so we will enjoy the off property restaurants.

I have another question for those who have stayed at both the Intercontinental and the Moorea Pearl. If price were equal for overwater bungalows, which would you choose and why? We have this option pre cruise with Regent and I am now wavering since the IC seems to have more facilities (gym, larger grounds etc). Any information is appreciated. Pam

This is sort of a tough call as neither of these resorts have the best of everything.
If overwater is really important and I had to pick between the two, then the Pearl. The overwaters at the Pearl are actually over the water. I believe there are much better overwater options elsewhere. But I'm working with your resorts previously stated. Note: the garden bungalow with plunge pool are much nicer, better privacy, and slightly cheaper.
Go with the Intercontinental if you're planning to make use of the facilities. Disclaimer: we were only at the Intercontinental for a few hours for the Dolphin Experience.
Which is more important to you? The facilities or your bungalow? While both resorts are top notch. It's a matter of personal preference of which deficiency are of a lesser priority to you.
