Here are a few clips we posted on YouTube today from last years visit to Club Bali Hai on Moorea. Muk McCallum let me film him and has some great stories of the early days in Tahiti, and how the Bali Hai Boys came to paradise from California in the late 50's/early 60's. There's seven short clips including an introduction, with classic Tahitian music in the background:
1.Intro:

Fabulous! Thanks for doing that. I've always thought somebody needed to get that oral history recorded for posterity. One of my favorites, which you didn't get, was the adventure into egg farming. Heard that one from Kelly years ago - may not be in Muk's repertoire.

I've filmed Muk at the round table for the last three years, and these are just a few of about four hours of edited footage I converted to DVD on my computer. We were at Club Bali Hai last May 2007 for two weeks. It was heaven.

Dude, you have gold. Get a lawyer and then get Muk's signature on a deal that let's you publish the stories (maybe get Jay's too). Then go find a publisher, who will give you a ghost writer, to take all the tapes and convert them to a book of short stories.
Once the book is a hit, you can sell CD's of the recordings.
Need a business partner? (Seriously - call me, I'd be interested in a partnership)

STM~ I know Jay has several times said he was going to write a book about their adventures, but sadly, it doesn't seem to be happening. I'm afraid if something isn't done very soon these guys aren't going to be around anymore to tell their stories. As much as I joke about some of Muk's stories...especially the Suzy No Pants ones....they are still a great look into a life and lifestyle in FP that is long gone. They've had an interesting life over there, that's for sure. And quite honestly, they and their hotels, have had a huge impact on the hotel/tourism scene over there. Many of their stories are funny and quite entertaining, but many are aso very interesting from a business standpoint.

Years back I approached Muk and Jay about doing a book or something like that and they where not interested. At that time they seemed that they wanted to do it themselves. It would be a great story and fun to do. Maybe I will re approach them again. I can do the publishing

PA~ You should toss it by them again. Like I said, they are NOT getting any younger. But quite possibly, they are at the age now where they don't want to put the effort into having a book written. Heck, they have Jan Prince living down the road. They could easily use her to pen their stories.
I wonder if they've ever shopped an idea of "their story" around to any publishers. Maybe they have and didn't get much of a response. I'll throw the question out to them next month while I'm there are see what the current feeling is.
