I read here yesterday that times have changed, and complementary transport to restaurants is becoming not so common. The person said, "On Moorea most restaurants offer p/u service, in Bora Bora there have been a lot of changes in terms of restuarant owners, so few free p/u and if you need a taxi add 100 us$ to your bill". What is the average charge for restaurant pick-up service? There are 4 in our group, do taxis charge by the person?

On Bora Bora, most of the restaurants send someone to pick you up and take you back. I don't remember the exact charge but I know it wasn't 100.00 USD. It was just a charge built into your bill at the end of the meal.

That person being me, the charge being in ref to resorts on the outer motu's (eastern side) with landbases way out in the Anau district. Afraid 100$ don ot get you very far these days. Charge is not per person but per p/u.

Thank you folks. Needed to estimate how much cash to bring. With the costs of things in FP, wanted to make sure I understood and that there were no surprises.

LOL. You'll still probably be surprised.
It really is outrageously expensive in FP. And in Bora Bora it is even more so. I think it's ONLY because they can. As long as the high end tourist market continues to pay it, they will continue to charge it, and will continue in increase those charges in the future. Many things are much cheaper on Moorea than they are on Bora Bora. Yes, part of that is because of the additional transportation cost to Bora Bora, and the increased fuel costs. But still...that is not enough to explain the marked difference in prices. Most everything you do and buy in Bora Bora will be AT LEAST 10-20% more than Moorea, probably more. It really is nothing more than price gouging in my opinion. It is more and more catering itself to the ulta high end tourist market.

yea i agree. bora bora was complete paradise to us but the resorts over due it on some of their pricing. i mean $25 for a hamburger and $18 for an ice cream.
i dont mind paying some higher prices especially since im used to it in new york but bora bora put ny to shame in terms of pricing

There is an element of resort pricing but literally everything is shipped in. Shippers are also coping with oil prices. Beef is heavy, and so is anything with water, like ice cream or milk. Besides, I'd rather pay $25 for a burger in FP than the $25 I paid for one in Cabo!

Now that is ridiculous. Won't a banana tree grow in FP?

I had a ton of free bananas last time I was there. Georgina (at he reception desk at Club Bali Hai) kept bringing in fruit from her yard. We had free bananas and pamplemouse almost every day.
