Wow - Its sad to hear that HBB is closing and hopefully our friends there will be able to find other work. For us HBB was the perfect place to stay - wonderful polynesian charm, and fabulous staff.

Indeed very sad development, they have had numerous land issues over the years and the economic situation as is.... hmmmmm :( can't begin to think how that place will be missed, BB without it is not the same!

Well, I need to win the lottery so we could return at least once to HBB before the closing. We aren't able to go back to FP until late 2009 at the earliest.
I've stayed in some really nice resorts and hotels in the US and other parts of the world, but there is just something magical about HBB that makes it the best place I've ever stayed.

Iriska, have you checked the FS website??? http://www.fourseasons.com/borabora/
Of course hotel has not opened yet, but it is beautifully designed around the existing flora, meaning it will give you an idea that the resort has been there for years and years, the OWB are less big than the ST Regis but nicer (polynesian) interior design with a bathtub looing out over the mountain.... Bar andpool are constructed such that you have an incredible view over lagoon and mountain, the beach villa has a big round tub made out of one piece of granite just sitting there in the middle of the huge bathroom (I just love those bath tubs LOL) designs are really nice, very good taste with mostly local materials BTW the spa at the FS is looking out over the ocean wowwwwwwwww you'll enjoy that!!
Staff is being trained since a long time to absolutely guarantee the FS standard (not an easy task in FP but they have really been working on that as they prefer to work with mostly Polynesian staff), reason they'll start up slowely July and work towards the grand opening
For what reason would you want to be on the main island??? If chosing the sofitel motu (especially after having stayed at St Regis .... i am afraid you'll be sorry, nothing wrong with the other hotels) you're virtually in the same situation as the St Regis or FS, being on a motu and so having to take a boat shuttle to get to the main island although sofitel motu is much closer, in that case I would opt for the FS (in terms of quality and standard) HBB being a very unique hotel, hard to advise which one on the main island to choose... nothing compares really
Other point is that the St Regis and FS are very close neighbours (both well secured but you could actually walk from one to the other) I don't know how you would feel about that??

Poehere thank you! you advise discouraged me to stay on the main land. So now I just have to choose between St Regis and Four Seasons. It is so pity that HBB is closing, I have heard a lot of good things about this hotel.

Sofitel Motu is on a Motu, just like the St. Regis its almost perfect opposite it in the lagoon. Motu means island/islet.
