Hi everyone-
I'll be staying at the Moorea Pearl in June, and it is my first time staying on the island. I will definitely need to do some running or working out while I am there, I was wondering about the accomodations on the island. Are there safe places to run outside? Does the Pearl have a fitness center?
Advice? Experiences?
Thanks a lot!

The Pearl Resort, Moorea does not have a fitness center. But they do have a pretty nice spa for after that daunting workout.
That said, I believe there might be some scheduled morning exercise activities at the pool. But not much else. As you might have read in other threads. You cannot jog on the beach as there's no lengthy stretches of beach.
You could jog along the main highway. But as many other will chime in, you have to be very careful when doing this. There's quite a bit a traffic and no curbed sidewalk for your protection.

I echo what ryo-oh-ki says. If you do run along the side of the road (off of it), keep your ears open & move away from the road when you hear vehicles. We've walked countless kms along Moorea's roads and we find many vehicles don't move an inch out of your way, even when there's nobody coming in the other direction. Why not try getting a workout from kayaking and swimming?

To have a good safe place to run. Go to the head of Opunohu Bay and run on the road to Belvedere. It's paved and has very little traffic. You also can run on the mountain dirt road from Pao Pao across from Ari's and the road is very well signed any easy to find to the paved road to Belevdere. There is also a gym next to Mahogany Restaurant but you would have to check with the front desk at the Pearl for the hours it's open

With that beautiful water in French Polynesia, why would you want to run for your exercize? Swim! and kayak! Both are great forms of exercize and are a specatular experience to do them there.

My husband and I are runners as well, and we just got back from a 3-night stay at the Moorea Pearl. We couldn't find anywhere to run around there, especialy because, as the other posters mentioned, the drivers don't budge for walkers. Instead, I took to swimming laps in the ocean outside our OWB. It wasn't the same as running (obviously), but I hope it burned off at least a little of all that fromage and Hinano Girl beer that we were consuming. :)

The other problem with running is the heat and humidity. You need to do it at sunup, if at all. Swim and paddle is the only way to do and FP workout. Oh, forgot Hinano curls - those can be done too.

I was going to mention the road to Belvedere. But the distance from Pearl Resort to Opunohu Bay is a stretch.
Signs aside, the roads back there can be a bit of a maze. But if you take the 4x4 tour to Belvedere first. Hamara's directions will make perfect sense.
I don't know the distances. But I do remember that the road to Belvedere starts out pretty flat (down by the shrimp farms). But as you get closer to the vista, the incline increases. Once you're at the top, there's a snack wagon.
Bring plenty of water. User your sun screen, and bug spray.

Aloha from Kaua'i!
My hubby and I were on Moorea in February - he ran in the Tahiti Marathon while we were there - there were TONS of folks out running that whole week we were there (there was a family run as part of the Marathon that seemed to be very popular with residents) while there certainly isn't a great running or bike lane - he ran every morning and I biked the main road - just have to be cautious when you are doing it - never ever assume you have right of way - you don't.
I also agree that you need to do it very early - we were generally on the road by 6am - the day of the race it started at 5am - and I remember just standing at the starting line I was sweating - in the dark! So do run as early as possible.
