We're planning our honeymoon trip around Xmas time (for lack of vacation days from work). I originally just wanted to go to Bora bora, but since traveling during Xmas season is extra expensive, I am wondering if it's worth it to go to just Moorea instead or do half and half.
I am also wondering if Moorea would be a better place to be if I want the option of walking to little shops or hiking and not just being on the beach/water the whole 7 days.
thanks for any tips!!

How low is your budget? Can you stay longer than 7 days? There are pensions in Bora Bora that are about $100 a night so that would really extend your ability to stay in Bora Bora. We plan on going at Christmas time again this year but to our beloved Huahine. This upcoming Christmas works so great because New Year's falls so that we can go for over 2 weeks-3 weekends.

Our Budget is around $5000. We only have the time between Christmas to New years off so that's around 7-8 days. I've called 2 different travel agent (pleasant holidays & Tahiti legends) and both of the gave me quotes more than $7000 for like a 6 day stay. >.<
are the pensions nice? I don't need to stay at luxurious over water bungalow but I kinda still want some OK place w/ privacy as it will be my honeymoon....
anyone think this might be doable w/ $5000USD?

This site is run by a travel agent. See what he has to say.

Or check out tahitipresse.pf English version, very interesting article somewhere on the bottom
bear in mind that Xmas is the most expensive period and in the large resorts you will have to be lot extra for a buffet dinner, no choice!

Mo'orea is a great honeymoon destination. Bora Bora is a phenomenal honeymoon destination. However, you can always save BB for an anniversary trip. We did both islands on our HM, but had we never left for BB after Mo'orea, we would have been totally content with the clear lagoon, sharktooth mountains, many things to do, and the lower cost. Most posters would say Mo'orea has more to do than BB. If you're on your HM, you will probably want to stay at a hotel; you might want a/c, too. Remember that French Polynesia is a great place if you can be content with a handful of activities during the day but not so concerned about the "big city" night clubs and bars at night, as the nightlife on the islands is rather quiet. It definitely is not like Hawai'i nightlife. FP is expensive but can be done on a budget of $5000 if you're willing to compromise a little on where you stay.

Thanks so much for everyone's advice.
We're not the clubbing/nightlife type of ppl, so as long as there's plenty of activities to do in the day time we would be perfectly happy...
does a/c not come as standard for the rooms? (as I've never stayed at a hotel w/o one)
and thank you for the tahitipresse.pf info. I'm looking into it. (Didn't know we're not suppose to post competitor info here... had to edit.. :P) hope I don't get in trouble. seems like they have some package that i can do close to $5000. is Novotel Bora Bora Beach Resort a OK hotel?

You've picked the most expensive time to travel to one of the most expensive places on the planet. Save your money and wait until you can do it right??
10th anniversary?????
Good luck
