Ditto holte, never knows what tomorrow brings.... BTW the trip reports are always so personal would not worry too much about that, just remember time has a different perspective here, if you bear that in mind and just relax you'll have a good time!

$5000 USD does not go real far these days due to the crappy exchange rate. You could shorten your tip to maybe 3-4 nights. That will cut down your cost. But from what I've seen. Travel agents won't deal with you unless you meet some sort of budget or stay minimum. My agent has a $7000 minimum.
Pensions can get a bit dicey for the first timer as you'll have to make your own arrangements. Also pensions are little huts that will vary from place to place. Some can be very nice. Some of them can be bare minimum. Hot water available? Where's the restroom and showers located? Electricity? A/C?
If you're a very worldly traveler. You can probably pull this off yourself and skip the travel agent altogether. There was a poster a while that had traveled the world. Booked all their own travel for their first trip to French Polynesia.
There was a really good backpacker trip report recently posted. But unless you were thinking backpacker honeymoon trip, hey it could be fun. I would lean towards holding off for now.

woo~~~ don't think I can do back packing or no hot water for my honeymoon... >.<
I actually was able to find something less than $5000 for the Novotel. and a little over $5000 for le Maitai ($500 more than Novotel) does anyone know which one is better or worse?

Avitas, novotel is on the same beach as Maitai, Novotel has a building across the road (2storey) with the rooms, bar, restaurant etc on the the beach side. Maitai has hill side rooms as well (nice view) and some OWB, it has a restaurant in the main building and a beach bar and lunch rest on the beach side, like novotel the property is seperated by the road, supermarket and couple of restaurants within walking distance. I think you'd better pay the little extra and choose the Maitai, nothing wrong with Novotel but just that little difference...

Poiehere, thanks so much for the info~ one travel agent told me that Novotel has a better beach than Maitai, and also since it's owned by the same company as sofitel, I'd be able to use the beach and facility at Sofitel. is that true?

the beach at the novotel is just a little wider, maitai and novotel/sofitel are all on the same stretch of the matira beach area. Could be that you may use the facilities, i don't know but since they all belong to the accor group i imagine so (i only ever go to have drink LOL)

Avitas, 2 words of caution, there is a construction plan for a 2 story apartment building next to the Novotel building offers have just gone out so maybe it will start within the next months... (workers starting early here) There is talk of change of ownership of the Novotel(BB and Rangi - not Sofitel), if you chose that one, just ask a guarantee in case this happens around the time you're planning your vacation, they'll never give you that info ofcourse but they'd have to honour your booking elsewhere in same category

Thank you so much for the info. that may be why couple travel agents I checked w/ are all having sales on the Novotel...
In that case I might just go w/ le Maitai to avoid having construction right next to me....
