I'm glad to hear that the closure is temporary, although a long one.

that being "official" version for outside the territory...?
one thing that is extremely well protected here is employment and not even for a 2 year closure can one lay off or terminate labour contracts. Aman resorts is not hte only one who no longer wants to invest in FP, the BBLR being for sale as wall.
In any case, for those who know some of the staff, the Four Season is having a special HBB recruitment day, a very warm and welcome gesture in these sad developments. We all just hope for these wonderful people and their family that they'll find a new place as they have brought so many smiles in people's lives!

That's a bummer! We were planning to FINALLY stay at Hotel Bora Bora in November 2009, then onto Rangi. Looks like we will have to rethink our whole vacation. Maybe we should take Fati's advice and stay at Le Matai. We've always wanted to stay at Hotel Bora Bora, but we always seem to get "deals" to stay at other resorts because they have sister resorts at other islands that we stay. This was going to be the first time that we stayed on different islands that don't have sister resorts, hence our decision to stay there. This really sucks!

Mauruuru Poehere for the reassurance that the wonderful staff at HBB are being interviewed at Four Seasons.....
Investing in FP must be a complex consideration.

The HBB staff is right up the Four Seasons alley. They definitely understand gracious service.

investing right now is on hold due to economic (low $ less tourists) and political situation... the HBB situation has created quite some shock waves it being one of the oldest renown hotels, very considerate of the FS eventhough they sometimes are reluctant to take on staff that has worked "too long" in another place (habits, different service level, standards etc)

Do you know if the hotel is planning on building new OWBs?

The word on the boards is that the manta rays are frequently seen over near HBB because it's an area of the lagoon that has not has construction. I wonder where those shy giants will go if there is a lot of disturbance in the area. Maybe to an area of the lagoon that really isn't accessible to a hotel.

They plan on redoing the entire hotel. Top to bottom. The only issue is ownership. Who will manage and own the hotel. It maybe empty for a while before it gets going. The Bora Bora Lagoon resort is for sale but have not seen a price tag yet.
The Four Seasons probably will take the majority fo the HBB staff since they are the best in BB. The only thing is will the Tahiti Four Seasons still be able to offer the remarkable customer service as all the other Four Seasons? I doubt it.

We just returned from the Hotel Bora Bora. We inquired about the closing and were told that it is closing in October for 2 years. Also mentioned that we this was our second visit and loved it due to the quiet and intimate setting and we were hoping that it would not become a major resort. We were told that it would have fewer bungalows when finished although more updated (needed) and perhaps somewhat larger. Also adding a spa. They also mentioned it could be longer than 2 years. By the time we can get back it will be finished. I'm sure it will be lovely!
