Well...they aren't great, but they do work. They're better in some rooms than others. I've never not been able to peel a pineapple with one. I'm not sure you'd be able to bone and filet a fish with one. But they are fine for cutting fruits and veggies and cheese.
Either pack a good one on your checked luggage or if you find the ones there not sharp enough buy one at the store.

Kitchenware is very expensive in FP! A knife you could buy in the dollar store here (and pack in CHECKED luggage) would run you more than $20 there. I looked for a kitchen timer at Champion/Toa when my old one broke, and it was $15 -- came home and found the same one at Walmart for $1.97. If you have packing room and available weight allowance in your luggage, bring a cheap but sharp knife and leave it there.

If you don't want to pack a knife, pack a little manual knife sharpener.

Islandbreeze: All the suggestions above are good, things we've done on many a trip to the Club.
We also pack snorkal gear, cooking utensils, alcohol, flashlight and batteries, and anything else that fits into our rolling icechest. strap it closed and check it on w/luggage. After unloading it, we use it for trips to the store, for taking food and drinks on day trips, etc. We used it once to walk to the Distillerie. Thank goodness we had it because there are no benches along the road.
You can purchase local catch just up the road in the early a.m. and get really good deals on fresh fish. Ask the girls at the front desk which days it's open. Like the others above, I take small quantities of spices or spice packets for space and weight reasons.
I have also been known to take my blender (with a converter), to make our Mai Tais and Pina Coladas for sunsets. Their fresh Coconut milk makes the best rum drinks and curry sauce.
by the way, for some of you afraid of food poisoning (and I am one of those people) it was several trips before I found out that eggs do not have to be refrigerated. And at the market, in the refrigeration unit, there are recycled jars filled with a thick milky creaming stuff. That is the Tahitian version of our sour cream. It is delicious.
Hope some of this is helpful. Enjoy your trip and use your sunscreen! Linda
