Hi,
This is my 1st time writing to this forum. Also, next summer will be our 1st visit to FP. My wife and I very much like Polynesian music and dance. It would be great to be in Tahiti during part of the annual July festivities. My hope is to try to stay somewhere in or near the capital for enough time to appreciate things - then go to perhaps one other island and stay at a pension. We're not fancy resort types - though they do look quite nice.

I've spent the last few weeks researching as much as I can. My wish is for someone to recommend a place for us to stay in - or near Papeete that would be comfy and fun. Like I said, our interests in the capital are to spend as much time as possible seeing live music, dance, etc. After, then we'll spend time on another island.

I'm hoping to do this returning from Indonesia (where we spend our summers). It would be a dream come true to witness a few days of competitions.......thanks...chris

THe heiva is 7 to 20th July, there is a couple of pension where you could stay -don't know if they're "fun" places though. One is the Heitiare Inn in Faaa 7500 cfp a night(near the airport), you'd be able to get "le truck" from Papeete until appr. 9 pm to get back or you could try the Fare SUisse in Papeete (10.000 cfp), walking distance from all the action.

Many other islands to chose from thereafter, depends on what you expect or want to do

I have heard good things about Fare Suisse, though I have not stayed there myself. I believe Hamara knows more about it.

The Heiva 2008 schedule does not seem to be posted online yet; it generally comes out at the end of May/beginning of June. Keep doing a google search for "Heiva 2008 Tahiti." I'll post it here if I find it! (Poehere, do you have access to it yet?)

Don't miss the artisan festival (Heiva Rima'l)during the Heiva; it's located, I believe, at the Aorai Tini Hau Hall. Artists and craftspeople from all the islands display and sell their handmade crafts -- it's wonderful!

Poehere, we are really looking forward to catching some events this summer. We probably will only catch the very end events in Papeete on 18 and 19 July. Have heard that Raiatea has Heiva events but not sure when they are scheduled. Will you be able to post event calendars for Raiatea and Rurutu too?
Mauruuru, vai
