Is it necessary to make a car rental reservation (for an automatic) prior to arriving at Moorea? We are there only one night, and already have a transfer in place to the Sheraton Moorea as part of our package.

But what would be the most efficient plan for renting a car? and where is the nearest rental place?

thanks!

There is a Europcar located at the Sheraton Moorea. They typically have very few automatics so I would definitely rent ahead of time if that is what you need.

I would reserve ahead of time, especially if you want an automatic.

Definately agree this time of year when it is busy.

Absolutely reserve ahead of time. It is difficult in high season to get a car at all if you don't have an advance reservation.

I will be traveling to Moorea at the beginning of September for 12 days. From what I've heard this is just past the peak travel time, so would it still be necessary to reserve a car ahead of time? Also, I am struggling with how many days to rent a car for and would appreciate any advice anybody has. I will be staying, along with some friends, at Linerava, so I know that the location is a bit more isolated than several of the other resorts. We are planning on doing some scuba diving, which seems like it is mostly on the northern side of the island so we would need a car for the days we want to do that. Would most people recommend just renting a car for the whole time, so we have the freedom to do things whenever we want to, or to only rent a car for a few days and try to do all of our driving activities during the days that we have the car. We really don't care if the car is an automatic or a manual, but we do need one that is big enough for four adults. Are the larger (not too large) cars harder to come by?

That's a good question as far as the size of the cars. We've RARELY seen big cars at the rental car places. Mostly small cars. It can still do the trick if it's just 4 of you, but it will be a tight fit.

September is still high season. It doesnt get slow until November now a days. Book ahead but dont fall back when you see the prices.

That's true. If you want a big car, I'm sure the prices are going to be outrageous! Probably well over $100 USD for a day, or maybe just for a few hours.

Thank you for your quick replies. \:\)
So far the best price that I have found is for a Ford Fiesta, for 10 full days, for approximately $550 US. I have never seen a Ford Fiesta. Is this a car that four adults could fit into for trips around the island?
