Hi all! I wanted to see if anyone has been to the airport motel recently, and if it is worth it to stay there from the JFK-PPT flight that gets in at midnight, until our flight to BB in the a.m. Or should we just hang in the airport on a bench? We had thought we'd stay until the noon flight, but I don't think we'll have much time to do anything. Not to mention we'll have our luggage with us. We are confirmed on the 9 a.m. flight, but stand-by for the 7:10 a.m. one. Any other hotels that anyone would suggest?

The airport motel is great for the lay-over haredi, opt for the 9 am flight so you'll be well rested and ready... lol when you arrive in BB. If not staying at the airport until c/i at 6 am is brrrrrrrrrrr. The airport motel is right accross and appr 12.000 cfp. Sheraton sells out at 12.500 nowadays but would involve taxi costs.

Poehere, It's just called the Tahiti Airport Motel, correct? I found it on line and am attempting to make reservations through the website. I actually may have to call since we get in Monday night. I don't want to have to wait to make sure our reservation has gone through.

Haredi,

Put in a search here for "Tahiti Airport Motel" because there have been a lot of discussions and reviews lately on this forum about it.

There are not very comfortable seats for resting at the Tahiti Airport (outside of inside the security area, which you can't get to after exiting immigration). You might want to bring a cheap inflatable raft and relax over by the domestic terminal, which is quiet at night, if you decide to camp out at the airport for the night. The snack bar will be open when you arrive, as will be the bank for money exchange.

I'd personally get a hotel room and a good night's sleep and leave for Bora Bora later in the morning. Your room on Bora Bora is unlikely to be ready in the morning anyway, and you will just do more waiting around there if you arrive on BB too early. There is a luggage storage facility at the airport where you can leave your bags for a few hours if you decide to go into Papeete in the morning before your BB flight.

We stayed at the Airport motel after arriving at midnite or whatever time it was. By the time we got our suitcases and took a cab up to the motel, more time had elapsed. Then we were too wired to go to sleep for awhile and sat out on the balcony. Then we got up at 4:30 to walk down and catch our 8:AM. flight. I'm not sure that it was worth it. The walk down is very, very easy, but I would opt for a cab up there at night unless you have very little luggage as it is quite steep. The way is very well lit. Many people do sleep at the terminal, which I really really love-because we're finally in FP. If you choose that route, be sure and have something that you can sleep on as Barbi said and bring an alarm clock of some kind!

Even if the room is not ready, you can lounge around the pool or go in the lagoon. You could nap on lounge chairs there or on your handy raft that you have from "sleeping" in the airport. Don't forget sunscreen.

Stay at the airport, open up your duty free booze and relax until your early morning flight leaves.;;'

I spent the night in that airport once, and it was really unpleasant. We had come in on a flight that arrived about 1 a.m., and our flight to Manihi wasn't until about noon. It's tough to find air-conditioning, and you get bored walking around. There is a little cafeteria upstairs that has A/C, we hung out there as much as we could.

Here's a link to "reviews" from folks who have slept in the Tahiti airport; you might want to read it before deciding whether to get a room:
