Hello everyone - i'm new to the forum and have been trying to see if anyone has covered this topic before -forgive me if they have but i can't find the thread.
I am trying to decide between R and KOS - from what i have read Raimiti has no beaches, but is cheaper than KOS.As its our honeymoon - the price is not so much of an issue. Does any one have any other points to compare the two please? (does anyone have the coordinates for KOS to find it on google earth please?)
Thank you for your help!

I just looked it up on Google Earth. I don't know exactly which of the 3 motus it is on...but I think it's either the one on the left or the center.

15 14 18.39 S
147 42 31.53 W

And Raimiti is about...
16 25 41.60 S
145 22 35.58 W

if this is your first trip to FP and honeymoon as well with money not being an issue choose the KOS, unless you want to "rough" it. Difference being that KOS is part of a luxury hotel and Raimiti is a "pension".

While that's true in a sense Poehere, in reality the stay itself would be very similar. Neither have air conditioning, electricity, phones, TV's, swimming pools, spas, room service, etc. Both are open air style bungalows with no "real" windows or doors. Although technically being a "part" of the hotel, the Sauvage would still not have the amenities that the Kia Ora hotel would have. You are still going to be more or less "roughing it".

If KOS and Raimiti are one component of a honeymoon trip, I don't think it would matter. I haven't stayed at KOS but have stayed at Raimiti three years ago. It's magical. We considered KOS but Raimiti is located in south Fakarava, which is unbelievable. Yes, going to either resort is akin to outdoor upgrade camping FP style - rather than tents, you get these great thatch bungalows. Great food at either place and evening entertainment island style. If it was your only HM destination, I would probably choose KOS. But I guess that you're going to other FP destinations.

KOS bungalows are larger and the bathroom is attached to the room, and a greater sense of privacy could be achieved. Raimiti bungalows are smaller - maybe 9 feet by 15 feet or so. The private bathroom, however, is detached by maybe 15 feet from your front entrance. The venue at Raimiti is quaint and maybe not as good as KOS since there are no real beaches right there. You could be dropped off on a desolate beach at Hirifa and see no one all day, and someone will pick you up later in the day to take you back to Raimiti. Have you checked out raimiti.com? Jaw dropping...You won't be disappointed by either place but Raimiti is special. Just ask anyone on this site who have been there.

I just went to the raimiti website. Ahhh! I forgot that they now have a larger oceanside bungalow perfect for honeymooners and it's by itself for greater privacy.

I don't know, you guys. I've seen lots of Raimiti photos, but KOS is very special too. Only 5 bungalows and you're treated like royalty. The hosts make all your dreams come true. The food was excellent and plentiful. KOS has beaches on 3 sides of the motu with other motus nearby to wander to - an excursion every afternoon, if you want to go, excellent snorkeling right off the beach. We felt like we were the only ones there except for meal time. It's got the "very remote" feel and it is - about the same distance away from real civilization (KOV) as Raimiti is from Rotoava. Did I mention HOT showers? Does Raimiti have hot showers? Can't remember reading about that. And yes, having an attached bathroom would be important to me on a honeymoon - I loved the sunken bathroom with it's coral and rock floor, open shower, huge conch sink. The bungalow was very spacious with a nice covered porch on the front with the beach as your front yard. The windows can close if it gets too windy or stormy, but provided lovely cooling breeze the rest of the time. We loved it! Raimiti is tempting us too - especially after all the great reviews and pictures, but we also like Havaiki near Rotoava and being able to go with the flow of the Polynesian village lifestyle. Hmmmm - decisions, decisions. That's my 2 cents.

If you can still get into the photo section of this web site, my photos were there the last time I checked. The subject was May 2004 Fakarava, Sauvage, MV - something like that.

I checked it out. There are still some photos under "Cool Stuff" and my photos are still there, but they're all jumbled up. There are several of Sauvage.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I don't know that one is "better" than the other. From what I can see, they are a very similar experience....with some slight differences.

The Sauvage might be just a step higher on the luxury ladder.

I think if you make your decision by what fits your budget, which ever has openings for your dates, and which fits your time schedule for arrival and departure days....you really can't make a bad choice.

I agree. Just thought someone who had been at KOS should put in a word for it - lately, Raimiti has been getting alot more coverage on this forum.

I giggled when you said you felt like you were the only guests at KOS. We actually were the only guests at Raimiti for 4 1/2 days of our stay!

Yes, there's hot water in the ocean-side bungalow (and the bathroom is inside, not separate, in that bungalow). Someone here said you can also use the hot shower in the communal bathroom behind the restaurant at Raimiti if you're in the lagoon-front bungalows (it never occurred to us to try). Daily snorkelling excursions, incredible, abundant food, too. But there's no beach right at Raimiti so that's an important distinction if that's important to someone. Mind you, the snorkelling at the dock was fabulous!
