They are also done in Bora Bora, Huahine, Manihi and probably every island that has a major resort. Although Moorea is the only one I've seen with dolphins.

I think Dr. Michael Poole's tour is probably the best in FP.

I know there was discussion about a year ago about shark feeding tours ending on Mo'orea. Not sure of the current status. Most of the other islands will have some sort of shark feeding. An excursion we took to the Blue Lagoon on Rangiroa included a shark feeding that was a couple of notches more hair-raising than the one we did on Mo'orea as the sharks swam around us in circles not just in front of us).
I've only heard of dolphin tours on Mo'orea but you might see them on Rangiroa in Tiputa Pass, although we didn't see any there. On our shark feeding excursion on Mo'orea, we also cruised alongside dolphins in Opunohu Bay - no extra charge!

"Shark-feeding" has been banned, but nobody told the sharks! Now the tours are called "Fish-feeding," but the excursions still go to the same old places the sharks were before, and they continue to feed there. You will see sharks on a "fish-feeding" excursion!

Shark-feedings unofficial or not are still done on most of the major islands in the Society group. As Barbi mentioned, some have dropped the "shark-feeding" name but they still take place. Bora does a shark-feeding outside the lagoon and Huahine does one inside the lagoon. The shark feeding I did on Huahine was much better than the one I did on Moorea.

How and why was it better? The only one I have ever been on has been the one on Moorea. We had so many dang sharks all around us and then also had so many show up at the ray feeding site, it's hard to believe soemthing coud be better. What do they do different on Huahine?

During the feeding in Moorea, the boat anchored and then ran a rope for us to hold on to. The water was a bit deeper so you held on while your body drifted out behind you. With other people pulling back and forth on the rope, it was difficult to stay steady and a couple of times I let go of the rope to tread water and try and take some photos. On Huahine, the set-up was much better - there was a rope fixed and then there was a metal bar on the bottom that you could stand on or lock your feet under. This made it much easier to concentrate on watching the sharks and it was infinitely easier to take photos. Also, although we saw a lot of sharks on Moorea, we saw 5 times as many on Huahine.

Okay, that makes sense. I agree, the rope thing on Moorea can be a problem. I don't like to be out at the far end of the rope for that very reason. It is very difficult to stay steady enough to take pictures. I do a lot better taking pictures of the sharks at the ray feeding, where I can stand and be in control of my positioning. I can't even imagine 5 times as many sharks. 25-30 is a whole lot of sharks, it was more than enough for me! Not sure how I would do with 5 times that many! LOL!
I still have to make my way to Huahine sometime. It's on my list for the future. Now I'm also looking forward to trying the shark feeding there. Thanks.

25-30 is a good amount. When I was on Moorea there was probably 12-15 or so. On Huahine, we saw close to 40 or 50 the day we went. So 5 times was a bit of an exaggeration maybe 3-4 times as many ;)
