I had a crazy idea last night and wanted to toss it out in here to see what you gusy think. For those of you who have been to Raimiti and know Maluha, what if we had a little T-E baby shower for her. We could buy small gifts for her baby and either get them all together and have one person mail them (which will take forever to get there!) or send them to whoever has a trip to Moorea planned in the next 2-3 months to deliver them to her in person.

Obviously I think many typical baby items knitted things and heavy blankets and such won't work too well in the tropics. But little onsies and ligtweight receiving blankets and stuff like that would work.

What do you guys think?

Sounds great to me, Patti. I'm hoping someone's going to Moorea in the next 2-3 months and would be willing to take them. It will take me a couple of weeks to find or make her something & then I'll have to mail it to the "traveller". I'll try really hard to keep it small so the person packing it won't mind. And I guess these gifts can't be wrapped (for customs' sake)...maybe the person would be willing to wrap them once there? I'd include gift wrap & a card, of course.

Editted to add...doh! I could just put it in a little gift bag (easily opened for inspection).

Since we have arranged to meet her on Moorea, Bev is already stocking up for our trip. Little bathing suits and clothes so far. We'd be happy to transport the loot. We go in November.

Hey Joe! (I love saying that!) We can use you as a back up plan in case we don't find someone going sooner.

Old Wife, I was thinking the same thing about the gift bag. Just send it and a piece of tissue still folded up. And then whoever brings it can put the gift in the bag when they get there.

Or we could just mail it. But I think it'll take so long to arrive being mailed and there's the chance it would be lost...not like that never happens sending things internationally! I STILL haven't received the package my daugther sent from New Zealand back in '02!

We are leaving for Europe to this week, but I would love to participate if I can still do that when we return end of July.

Most likely. Because I don't think anyone we know is going in July. So we probably won't be doing anything until at least August. Have a great time in Europe! Where are you going?

Finnano-have fun in Europe. You could probably find an interesting baby gift there, but no polar fleece! Hope the weather is better there. It hovers around 50-60 here, although they claim it's supposed to warm up. My daughter said that Berlin was 100 last week and they were also in Riga, where she said it was very windy and about 70. She said that all of the outdoor cafes had blankets on the chairs. If you ever want to take a boat, my daughter said that Riga is very charming. No high rises, old buildings, and cobblestone streets.

Rats, I am leaving next week (June 27th) so it's probably too late to mail the baby shower things to me to take to Moorea! (I'm also packed to the gills, weight-wise, for this trip already!) I will also be on Moorea again at the end of October, and Denver Joe and I will actually overlap on our visits, so we could BOTH transport the stuff for Mahula if the participation is large and the gifts are too much for one person to bring.

I think Pacific Andy and TravelinTom will be on Moorea the first or second week in July?

P.S. Get your onesies and little baby clothes in a LARGER baby size than normal... Tahitian babies are BIG and grow like weeds!

We are bringing some 2T clothes this trip for a 4 month old baby boy, believe it or not!

A 2T for a 4-month-old? Holy smokes! I always buy bigger sizes for baby gifts, but I wouldn't have guessed a 4-month-old could be a size 2T!
