Hi, Can anyone recommend a great spot for snorkeling on Bora Bora? I am looking for a lot of marine life. We are leaving for Bora Bora in a week.
Thank you for any suggestions.

The snorkeling gardens behind the Sofitel Motu are pretty much regarded as the best snorkeling area on the island. What hotel are you staying at?

We're staying in Le Meridien. We got a very good deal so we decided to stay there even though we read that there is not much snorkeling around Le Meridien.

From your hotel, the 2 best options for seeing lots of marine life are....

A Lagoonarium where you can (for a price) swim with various underwater critters in an enclosed area. The lagoonarium is fairly close to Le Meridian, I think within walking distance. Also, as I first suggetsed, a trip down to the snorkeling gardens behind the Sofitel Motu.

Hi Vikinek,

The Sofitel Motu would be very difficult for you to get to from the Le Meridien. The lagoonarium is actually located right next to the Le Meridien but not the nice coral reef snorkeling I would imagine you are looking for. Your best bet would be to book a snorkeling tour either through the hotel when you arrive or directly with the tour operator by phone. If you book a tour, they will pick you up, take you to the best snorkeling spots around Bora Bora and then bring you back. That is the route I would go. The Le Meridien might also run a shuttle to the Nui and if so, you could have lunch over at the Nui and do some snorkeling while there which, although it is not the best, is much better than anything around Le Meridien.

I was thinking that we might use the kayak to get from Meridien to Sofitel Motu. We kayaked along the Napali coast in Hawaii so the distance should be a piece of cake.
The more difficult task will be how to get to Vaitape as it is the only place where to get groceries as I understand it. I read that there is a morning bus going from Anau to Vaitape. Anybody knows what time?

You shouldn't need to go all the way around to Vaitape for groceries.

We walked from HBB to a grocery that was just beyond the Sofitel, Le Maitai, IC Moana area. It was a bit of a walk, but a nice way to see life happening on the island. Even ran in to a shuttle driver from an earlier excursion a couple days before and spent almost an hour talking to her. Not sure where the boat shuttle from Le Meridian is, but this grocery may not be that far of a walk.

Vikinek, it is not soo much the distance in a kayak as well as the currents and being in the "main traffic lane" so to speak of boat shuttles coming and going to the airport from the various resorts as well as staff shuttles crossing from the motu's to the main island
A new grocery store should open in front of the Meridien landbase but not yet...
The Meridien landbase is appr. 5 km from the nearest grocery story Tiare Market in front of the Novotel at the Matira area

Yeah, guess so spotbeagle, tiare market is 20 minute walk frm HBB good store open 7/7, the other one in Anau (Meridien base) was ok too but closed unfortunately so people from resorts with no direct shuttles to Vaitape will have to take a taxi or so as the Anau area (Meridien base) to tiare market is too long a walk in the heat
