Hi Everyone,
Loved Raimiti and Fakarava the best of our 3 island visit. We wish we could have spent 10 nights there, not 6. We took an open boat to Raimiti with Junior, no sign of the covered boat people have mentioned. We were greated by Elvina and the dogs Castor and Rotu. Malua had left a few days prior and taken Polox with her. They told me that she was doing super in Moorea. I cannot say enough good things about the wonderful hosts at Raimiti. I will be writing more about our stay in the next week.

Also, there were 2 new bungalows under construction and being framed in. The day before we left, a ship delivered wood building supplies and other stuff to the complex. They looked like they were making great progress.

Thank you all for your help in planning this trip.

Sounds like a great trip, Daydreamin! Are the 2 new bungalows both on the ocean? I can just picture Maluha taking Pollux with her to Moorea. She always said (when we were there)that that dog was the only one with any common sense, LOL. Were there many (any?) other guests at Raimiti when you were there?

The place was full when we arrived June 20. There was my family of 4 plus 5 couples. An international assortment: one couple from the US, 2 french couples 1 from New Zealand and 1 from Italy. Some departed on Mon and Tues but new people arrived to replace. The new bungalows are away from the shore and located more in between the ocean bungalow and restaurant.

Can't wait for a trip report. Raimiti was our all time favorite vacation spot. Are the new bungalows like the ocean one, or more like the lagoon ones?

I wonder if the new bungalows aren't for the staff? I know Eric is supposedly building his "house" soon.

I wonder what's up with the missing covered boat.

Too funny that Maluha took Pollux with her. I can't imagine what kind of trouble Castor and Rutu will get into without her. She really is the one with the brains!

I am so happy you enjoyed it there. I am with Denver Joe, it's my favorite destination of all time! Maybe there's some place better out there...but I'll probably never know...because I'll be going back to Raimiti...again, and again, and again....

So did it feel "full" with all the others there? That part of what concernes me about them building a couple more bungalows. I think any more than 10-12 (or 14 in your case) would be a bit too much.

Can't wait for your trip report....and PICTURES!!!!!

Patti, I'm going to keep trying to find something better. Don't know if I'll succeed, but it will be fun trying. And if I don't, I'll just have to go back again.

The new bungalows are definitely for the staff. When we were there June 10-14 Eric mentioned that they were building bungalows for the staff and a better kitchen and then would start on the other bungalows on the ocean side. Eric also mentioned that he would be signing papers at the end of June to sell(?) Linareva. He seemed to be extremely happy about moving to Raimiti full time and not having to make the trek back to Moorea on a regular basis.

We just got back on the weekend and will have to write about things later but from the sounds of it you had a much better time there than we did. It rained 75% of the time we were there (yes, that's almost constant rain) so we saw very little. Raimiti seems like it would be fabulous but it can get unpleasant when it is cold and rainy all the time! Because of the Rain we did not see Mahula and the staff really kept to themselves.

If we learned nothing more from our time at Raimiti, we definitely learned to appreciate a simple life. Coming back to North America everything seems so excessive now!

sbtb~Ohhh...that's too bad that it rained so much while you were there. I know someone else who had the same problem for their stay. Did you get to do any excursions at all, or was everything rained out?

I will admit, unless you REALLY like to sit around and read, there really wouldn't much to do there if there's constant rain.

We were very lucky, only had a few showers here and there.

The new bungalows are small, location would make sense for the staff vs tourists. If the staff moved there, this would open up room on the left of the dock to accomodate visitors in those bungalows currently existing.

We were there the nights of June 20-26. Friday, Saturday were sunny and a bit windy, Sunday mostly sunny and absolutely calm, the lagoon was like a mirror and the sky and sea were blended into one. I don't think I will ever forget the sight. We also drift snorkeled the pass that day, fantastic experience.

The wind picked up Monday afternoon through Tuesday making kayaking impossible. Junior returned a couple to the airport early afternoon and the boat ride was 1 1/2 hours. BUT, he also had to pick up a couple who arrived around 4pm, it took 2 1/2 hours to get back! Remember that this is winter in FP so the sun set about 5:15pm. It is completely dark within 30 minutes. It is a challenging ride back in the dark over choppy waves. I was told by a French couple that French law does not allow lights on boats. We were still able to do a morning excursion with Junior on Wednesday, plus a lot of personal beach exploration. The windy weather worsened Wednesday afternoon. When another couple arrived on a late afternoon flight, Junior could not make the pick up. They had to find lodging near the airport for the night. When we left Raimiti Thursday morning, the wind had died down. Junior picked the missing couple up around 10am when he dropped us off for our flight.

We never felt crowded. We always felt confident and secure with Junior on the boat and excursions. If more bungalows are built on the ocean side, I hope they space them well. I loved our ocean side bungalow and the sound of the waves. The wind did not bother us. Little problem with mosquitoes on Fakarava, eaten alive on Moorea. Funny thing is that even with repellant, they would bite me or my daughter, and mostly ignore my son and husband. Guess we were a more tasty treat.
