Hi,

My fiance and I are going to St Regis Bora Bora in September for our honeymoon...I have a few questions...

Are there "fine dining" restaurants close by? We love seafood, and French food is our favourite...any suggestions?

Also what about shopping? We like designer shopping...any good places for that in Bora Bora or Tahiti?

Thanks in advance!

The StRegis has one of the top restaurants of the island, the Lagoon, (signature Jean-Georges Vongerichten) make a reservation up front for the outside terrace -few tables- nice to have pre-dinner drinks at sunset time as well

On BB itself is the Villa Mahana -need to make resa well up front- see if you can get the upstairs private table/room (you can do both resa with the concierge of the St Regis as VM does not accept email resa anymore

Kaina Hut just reopened and is nice French food and reasonably priced with pleasant service

The boutique at the St Regis has some beautiful stuff $$$$$$ though, there is one in Vaitape who has some designer shopping but it is selling out and prob no longer there when you arrive

BTW THe Four Season will have very good dining too and prob couple of nice boutiques, it should open slowly (end of this month... if all goes according to plan) St Regis is right next door and you may be able to visit

If you like contemporary design, have a lunch at the Thalasso, modern styled top end resort quite close to the St Regis, check for shuttle transfer with the concierge as well

Tahiti has some nice boutiques but very very expensive compare to USA or Canada

Thanks for the reply Poehere...

We arrive first week September...Around 7pm in Tahiti...so I assume we need to stay a night there and then head over to st regis in the morning...Ive read the airport motel is decent...if its just for a night, Im not too picky...as long as its clean, comfy and we can get some decent food.

Whats the best way to get over to the st regis the following morning?

Also, on our way back...we were thinking of staying a few nights in tahiti before we fly back home to Canada...but only if there is good dining/shopping and things to see and do in Tahiti...If so, what restaurants do you recommend? And what hotel should we stay at?

Thanks again!

Yes, you will need to spend the night in Tahiti before heading to Bora Bora. Although the Airport Motel is fine to spend the night, you will have to go off the property to get something to eat. You might be better off staying at a hotel where they not only have restaurants, but also have room service. Such as the Intercontintntal. It's only about a 5 minute taxi ride from the aiprort.

As for getting to the St Regis the next morning....you do know you need to fly there, don't you? If not....you will need to make resevations of Air Tahiti. The flight is about an hour long and right now is is running around $450US round trip. Once you arrive at the airport on Bora Bora, you will need to transfer by boat to your hotel. That cost may or may not be included in your stay at the St Regis. But either way, you will have to make sure they know you are coming, and on which flight, so they may set up a pick up for you.

As for staying a few nights in Tahiti, the best hotel on the island is probably the Intercontinental. For shopping....unless you are shopping for black pearls or Tahitian souvenirs...I would think the shopping would be outrageously priced as compared to the US or Canada. There are NO bargains there at all!!!!

No one has mentioned the restaurant Top Dive for fine dining. We went there years ago and it was really lovely. Good food, good wine, nice setting. It's been a while, though, so if someone who's been recently can confirm that it's still a good place to eat, you might want to think consider including it in your plans.

Top Dive was very good a few years ago but the quality had fallen quite a bit when I went there last April. I had read that it had recently closed but I am not positive. Either way, I don't think it is worth the money any more.
