Top Dive closed last January, it is now rented out to the Four Seasons, they're planning to use it as a base for the shuttle boat transfers and some managers are living in the bungalows. The diveshop is still there.
Yosemitegirl, the old chef (4 years ago) now runs a place called the St James, very good food, very expensive, very small portions and unfortunately lousy service (check some tripreports)
IN my humble opinion (lol) fine dining would be the Lagoon at the St Regis

Poehere, When I was there last April, I had heard that the original Top Dive chef had already left at that point - is that true? If he is now at St. James (which you said was the old Pirate's Bar) that explains why it is now much more expensive to eat there. I would imagine the restaurant and menu would be completely different.

Oh sorry I am talking about Patrick who worked at TD 4 years ago, he took over the Pirate bar and turned it into St James with someone else. Food is good and funny enough you can actually recognise certain signature things from the Top Dive days, especially in the dessert section... but it is really the quality and not the quantity, very very small portions unfortunately and the service (getting the wine at desert hmmm) is not good. They really made it look good though with a very nice bar on the water front (goind down) and great outside dining. Too bad
BTW do you remember Alexia hahahaha the "raerae" fromTD? She (or he LOL) is now working with Gilles at the Kaina hut. He is the one who started Kaina Hut 5 years ago, stopped last year and someone else took over, they went broke, Gilles came back and re-opened the Kaina Hut. Great food, good service and reasonably priced!!
Too bad missing you at BB Islandboyatheart, hope you had a good time

Patrick is probably the chef I am talking about. I was there in 2004 and the food was very good. In 2007 it was the same menu but the food was not very good at all. I remember Alexia - she (he? - don't know which is preferred) was there both times we went. I loved Kaina Hut last time I went in 2007 which was when Gilles was there and right before they closed down. Glad to see that he is back and with him, the good food.
Lol - I didn't know a Poehere (besides my wife - lol) back in 2007.

That's sad to hear. We had a really great meal there. Oh well, at least we have the memories!

We were at Top Dive for dinner last November. Didn't get a name, but the host(ess) was a tall, thin raerae.

I think that most transgendered people prefer to be referred to by the gender they are expressing through clothing and behavior. That is what I always do, anywhere we meet those folks. (We live in the SF Bay Area so we run into more than we would living elsewhere.)
Our first visit to the Sofitel Motu, the day manager was Nano, a really really wonderful transgendered woman with whom we struck up a friendly acquaintance. She took great care of my parents when we sent them there, too. She seemed grateful to be treated as a woman. Not all of the staff were very respectful of her, even though she was a manager. It made me feel bad for her because in addition to being very nice, she was really good at her job.

We were there in May and Top Dive has closed down. We were told that the Four Seasons was using the site for some reason. It was a great restaurant as we ate here when we were in Bora Bora 5 years ago.

A majority of the popular restaurants there are "fine dining" ....especially once you see the prices!
