4 years later we are planning our second trip back to Tahiti and her islands. We're also doing a 2 night trip to Easter Island when we get to Tahiti.
My biggest issue (yeah issue haha) is that we LOVED our hotels last time around..but would like to perhaps stay somewhere new this time. We stayed in Sheraton-Moorea (OWB) and Le Meridien-Bora Bora (Beach Bungalow).. This time we're adding 3-4 nights in Tahaa to see somewhere new, but still going to Moorea and Bora Bora. We loved both islands equally but for different reasons :)
So far this is what I have: 2 nights Easter Island (open to hotel suggestions) 3 nights Moorea (Sofitel or Sheraton) 3 nights Bora Bora (not sure but open to suggestions!) 3-4 nights Tahaa (Le Taha'a Island Resort & Spa)
Thoughts?

Only 2 nights on Easter island seems like such a short time for such a long trip. To travel from the east coast all the way to Tahiti, then turn right around and have to travel another 5 hours back to go to Easter island...stay for only 2 nights and then another 5 hour flight to head back to Tahiti???? Just my opinion....

When my son was going to school in Chile, he and his wife met us in FP ,and they had a stop at Easter Island. I'm not sure that two days there wouldn't be enough, but it is a long ways to go. Look on this site and maybe you can find the thread that talks about Easter Island here. Perhaps you might want to consider skipping one of the islands and spending more time on one. It sounds like way too much packing and sitting around in airports. But since you've already been to FP you have a feel for your traveling preferences. I just know that I would rather spend less time in airports and on planes.

Due to the schedule of the only airline that flies to Easter Island the minimum amount of nights, from what I remember, is 4, but I can double check back through our stuff and see what we did.
If you are able to swing the Easter Island trip, it is well worth it. Our experience there was absolutely amazing, educational, and I came away with a sense of "history repeating itself." Although it's heritage is Polynesian, it is very different from what you will experience in the islands of French Polynesia. There are no luxury hotels, no OWBs, only one small beache, no flourishing jungle/palm tree life. Languange mostly spoken is Spanish instead of French. Most of the hotels are essentially a low to mid level Motel 6. Although all will provide some sort of breakfast. Like French Polynesia, the locals are very proud of their heritage and want to share it with visitors.
If you have any questions about visiting EI, please ask away.
If you love seeing ancient sites Easter Island is not to be missed. I've been to Stonehenge and to the Aztec pyramids in Mexico city, but they do not even compare to EI.

Lan Chile leaves every Monday and Thursday morning at 00.30 hr for EI, coming back to Papeete every Wednesday or Sunday evening. Flighttime is 5 hrs and they are 4 hrs ahead of Tahiti. You'll get to Hanga Roa around 9 am leaving 2 days later at 9 pm so have ample time to check it out. Packages in Tahiti for EI are offered around 80.000 cfp/p.p including 2 nights pension. As spotbeagle said, if you're into cultural historical things it really is worth it. The closest resemblance in FP would be the Marquises (Polynesian heritage) but still not the same

Good points about Easter Island! I wasn't aware of the flight times. Travel agent says it's 2 night minimum. I think the most we'd like to stay is 3 nights really. Kind of like a quick trip to Vegas from East Coast :)
Do you think 3 nights on Tahaa is good? We want to do a 4 night stretch to just relax as our last stop before heading home. I'm thinking Bora Bora. We were there 7 nights last time.. just walking around, meeting people, reading on the beach at Le Meridien. I know most people would say that's WAY too much time on Bora Bora, but it still didn't feel like enough :)

We did Sheraton Moorea and LM Bora Bora on our first trip to FP. When we went back last year we decided to try a new place on Bora Bora (IC Thalasso) and we added Le Taha'a. I definitely wouldn't miss Le Taha'a- it is absolutely fantastic and perfect for just relaxing and taking in the views and experiencing a more remote experience vs Bora Bora and Moorea.
I love Bora Bora too so staying there for a 4 night stretch is easy for me too! Our first trip we did 4 nights and last year we did 5 nights in Bora Bora. I thought 5 was really great.
If you want to end your trip with the most quiet place, I would opt for Taha'a as your last stop.

Thanks Travcarib, so did you stay at Sheraton again on Moorea? We really enjoyed it 4 years ago when we were there.
We're now thinking of skipping Easter Island this time and doing: 1 night in Tahiti (IC Resort Tahiti) 3 nights Moorea (Sofitel or Sheraton) 4 nights Bora Bora (IC Thalasso) 4 nights Tahaa (Le Taha'a Island Resort & Spa)

That sounds like a really nice selection of hotels and lengths of stay. Although a visit to Easter Island would have really been very cool. It just seems hard to fit it in with the amount of time you have available and the other islands you plan to visit. Maybe a trip sometime in the future when you have more time.

I too love Bora Bora and will go back and definitely longer than the 4 days w ehad the first time there.
Easter Island was added on a whim at the last minute to our trip. We had pretty much settled on our itinerary to Bora and Moorea. Was sitting the TAs office looking at brochures while she was confirming availability and there it was. I had no idea that EI was open for travel. Agent told me that if I really wanted to go, it would be a great addition to what we were doing already since Papeete was one of the only two airports with flights going there. So we dropped a couple days from our Bora and Moorea stays, added on a couple more to accommodate the EI schedule. I'm so glad we went and would consider going again.
