I do have some cardboard here -- very sturdy -- AND can get some poster board at Supersonic on Moorea. I also have some acrylic paints with me, so it can definitely be made BRIGHT, even after Andy's daughter colors it (that is, if she wants to). I will look around for some local Tahitian kid's coloring books or story books, maybe find one we can trace an outline onto a sturdy surfaced poster board.
Somebody figure out a chain-mail method to get it from place to place after we set it up? I'll be home at the end of August and can mail it to Patti from AZ... after that??

This sounds like fun I want in, too! I would be happy to take the little vahine, to the "Tiki Festival" in Long Beach at the end of August(if you're back by then, Barbara) or Sam's Seafood in Sunset Beach. I actually would be happy to donate an 8 1/2 Tahitian doll, already in costume. I guess that wouldn't be as much fun to send from place to place, as the creative one somebody is about to make! I'll be waiting for my turn, just let know me where to send my address. You people, are so much fun!

Oh my gosh.... As R and I sat here tonight watching the sunset off our deck on Moorea, we were both staring at the little wooden carving of a dancing vahine I bought him in Papeete last year! She is JUST the right size, and the right shape to trace onto a poster board!! Duhhh, what took me so long to think of this?? I'm going to take a photo of her right now, transfer it to photobucket if I can, and come back and post the link so you can all see her!
Suggestion for name: Heremiti = loves the sea!
Back soon, I hope, with a link...

Ok, that was easier than I thought! Here's the link to the photo; tell me what you guys think! She's easy to trace; easy to color; we could add a bikini TOP to her (and maybe a lei), and let Andy's daughter give her a face. Also, she wouldn't have green skin in real life! Give me your thoughts... she is small enough to fit in a 9" x 12" mailing envelope without bending her. Whatcha think? (I've titled her "VahineIti.jpg)

And, I have to say, we really like her ATTITUDE; she always makes us smile!

I was going to suggest naming her "Tiare" I just finished reading Tiare, a book by Celestine Vaite. Not to hijack this thread but this is a great series. I leave in the morning, need to finish packing. Our doll will need to visit me here in Kauai once she (or he gets travelling) Joan

I am sure I can find a way to include the CN Tower in Toronto in her travels.

She's welcome here in the Southern Rockies, but she may leave with a new tattoo (they're not just for men Patti!) ;)

Okay Barbara, I'll be expecting the "Tahitian Princess or Prince" sometime toward the end of Aug. Then, I'll send it on to Patti.
By the way Barb, I hope you're having a wonderful trip! Were you able to grap up the Aug. 2009, beachfront?
