We are staying at Les Tipaniers - dont want to bring our own snorkelling gear on this trip as we are continuing onto the US or a long trip and will have a lot of stuff already. iIs there somewhere close by Les Tips that rents snorkelling gear ie snorkel, mask & fins for a reasonable rate? Les Tips says they charge 500 XPF per half day pp which will add up quickly. Thanks.

I suggest that you bring your own mask and snorkel. The mask will fit you and who wants to use a snorkel that someone else has used. They aren't that much to pack, I feel. The fins are the heavy part and maybe you can just get those somehow when you are there.

Les Tips has an aquatic center called Tip'Nautique (Activites Nautique) on its property, located at the north side of the beach, and they will be glad to rent you the necessary equipment. Most people bring their own mask and snorkel, at the very least, for proper fit and hygienic reasons, but they will rent you a mask/snorkel if you need one. They do have fins available.

I would leave the fins at home. If you are a good swimmer you won't need them. As far as mask and snorkel, if you really don't want to have to carry them to the US, I would buy an inexpensive set to take with you and leave them behind in FP. You can buy a cheap set for about 20 US which will be much cheaper than the cost of renting at 6-7 US pp/day.

It's a preference thing as to whether or not to bring your own gear. I like the idea of just buying a cheap set and then leaving it there. There are VERY few (if any) places there that you can rent/hire them. Most of the hotels have their own that you can use.
