Definitely seems like something strange there with the Otemanu view Diamond- from what I understand there are only 3 categories- Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond. Sounds like the Thalasso is being greedy. I have read some bad reports about service with them- it's too bad, there is competition out there so they need to shape up!!
I guess the Ambassador program has caught on and has caused them to lose several nights sales- causing them to be stricter and come up with different ways to charge guests more??

I'll post a trip report, but yes there is definitely a new Diamond Otemanu category. In the lobby to the left of the desk there is a TV that flashes rack rates for all rooms, Diamond Otemanu is listed (I believe rack rate is 147,000 a night, we calculated it to be about $2,000 but that is rack so people probably don't pay that).
We stayed in 124 which is a Diamond Otemanu, we only paid for Diamond though. And Diamond Otemanu does not mean end of the pontoon - it means the best views of the mountain.
Up on the Thalasso website right when they were doing the changes to the site there actually was a new PDF map posted showing which bungalows were which. That has since been taken down, along with all of the other helpful PDFs they listed such as menus w/ prices and spa services w/ prices etc. I think that these documents may have been posted accidentally because they were up one day and gone the next, just happened that I looked that one day. And sadly I did not think to save them.
Anyways, we thought service and food were good - not great but definitely good. We were prepared for the high prices so I think this contributed to us having a good time. We were actually surprised that burgers were NOT in fact $50 USD as we had read. A room service burger was about $35 tops. So food and activities cost less than we thought they would be which was nice.
Any specific questions?
Room and view were great. There was a small lizard in our bungalow, but c'est la vie. No cockroaches or any other bugs (which I why I switched our original reservation at Le Meridien). We love modern, clean decor so it suited us. Bring DVDs.
Also, we were very happy that we did not have a meal plan. Room service was actually comparable to eating in restaurant, and they set up white linen etc. on the table on your deck so for three nights we just ordered in and watched the sunset while eating. Room service is NOT included with the meal plan though.
Any other specific questions?

Did you run into trouble with getting your free night through the Ambassador Program.....were you able to get a room upgrade too?

We actually did not join Ambassador b/c we did not want the stress of worrying about whether they would accept or not. In fact, a recent Trip Advisor post (or some forum, can't remember) just reviewed the Thalasso and said that their voucher was not accepted around the time we were there.
We were given upgrade upon check in - husband is Priority Rewards platinum so we assumed that was the reason for upgrade but we didn't question it so can't know for sure.
To be honest, I think they treated us well b/c we didn't bug them multiple times about specific room numbers and vouchers etc. We emailed once to say we'd like a good view of the mountain if possible and that was it. We actually got double honeymoon gifts too (e.g. on the first day we had fruit plate, dessert plate, wine, bottles of water, gift bath towels, pareos etc. waiting in our room. we had the same treatment again three days in as well, even though we told the lady who delivered that we'd already received everything the first night), that could have just been a mistake though.
Anyways, overall great experience. Definitely worth the $.
