New Category at Thalasso Bora Bora!? "Diamond Otemanu"

Has anyone else encountered this supposed new room category?
We booked a Diamond OWB and will be staying in one month. My fiance emailed the Thalasso to request a room with a mountain view if available. I am attaching the reply we received below, does anyone know if there actually is a new category or if they are just trying to "upsell" us as the reply not-so-subtly states? I cannot find any information about a new room category on their website, I have even tried "booking" a year out. Email:

Thank you for choosing our exquisite resort for your next stay. The Diamond with Otemanu Mont view is a higher category. To be upgraded in a Diamand Otemanu, the upsell will be 15 000 XPF more for every night. To organize your transfer from the airport to the hotel would you please let us know your flight details.
For your information the airport is located on a small motu wich is surrounded by water and the only way to get to the resort is the boat. It will coast 3025 XPF per person per way included all taxes.

Actually, I have not heard that!! My fiance and I are staying there in early August for our honeymoon and I have already put in my requests. We booked a Sapphire level and got the ambassador membership (If you don't have it, get it. It's worth the $150 easily), as they usually upgrade you one level and have other perks. By doing that, we hoped to get to the diamond level which was the best, and they never mentioned another category above that. First, my suggestion, check this board for info on the ambassador club membership and get one. If you do get one, they might upgrade you for FREE to that level when you get there.
Then, try these guys, they have been great with me so far. Maybe say you forgot to mention you had a Ambassador membership, and see what they say.

That "policy" was introduced quite a few months ago.
Unfortunately Thalasso management is greedy
and they are doing everything they can to destroy
this amazing hotel. This is just one of many examples...
In my opinion if Interconti cares they should fire them all.

Snowboarder - we thought about trying the Ambassador route but in the end decided not to only b/c the hotel is full for the time we're there. (and therefore we weren't hopeful for actually getting an upgrade) Are you going to use the free night voucher? If so I'd be interested to see if Thalasso accepts it, I've read conflicting reports, but if it works I will definitely regret not going Ambassador. What date are you returning? I'd love to hear about your trip if you get back before 8/17! :)
And thanks Snowboarder for confirming that we aren't the first they've used this on. I'm crazy, but I may just call Interconti main line and ask them about it. Something seems fishy about this to me - unless there is a new map out there who is to say what bungalows are Diamond Otemanu even if we paid the extra $250 or however much per night. (which we aren't planning to). I've searched for an updated map w/ the "Diamond Otemanu" category and can't find anything but the old maps.
I'll post an update if I call...

Chicagolawyer.. Wish I could tell report for you, but we are there from the 10th to the 25th, so won't be back in time before you leave. Maybe we'll run into you two there.
In reading the posts about the card, EVERYONE said they got an upgrade, that's why I got it, along with the late check-out and early check-in, if that applies to you. Plus, the free night can't hurt any way you slice it for a long weekend at a great hotel. We paid through our travel agent, so I doubt we can use that for a night and get credit. I can't see how that woudl work, but if you can explain, I'd love to try it.

Shiva -- search on the FlyerTalk forums for Thalasso Bora Bora. If you used a TA and prepaid you may not be eligible b/c it would be the TA who would need to refund the $? I'm not sure but either way, I think I remember some posts on FlyerTalk about TAs and the voucher. Don't remember if people were successful or not though, sorry!
Enjoy the trip, we won't be getting there until 26th so we'll miss each other but we both should have an amazing time!

No changes have been done in the bungalows and no bungalows have been added so if they talk about a new category... must be in the rates. Very nice resort enjoy!

chicagolawyer, we would love to hear how your trip went to BB and what you thought of Thalasso. Did you end up paying the extra for the end of pontoon Diamond Bungalow?

Thalasso has a project sitting in a box for 15 ocean side bungalows, due to political situation it is postponed, sure that'll be another catagory as well
