People,

We are going to be in FP in 2 months and we are currently booking our excursions.

My Fiancee just got her advanced dive license and she is new to diving. How safe is the drift diving in the Tiputa Pass? And what is the depth like?

Thanks

Matthew and Anthea

Hi Guys,

The Tiputa Pass has a pretty strong current and the depth is max 145 feet at the outer edge of the pass. I didn't dive it but snorkeled it. I sent my wife some info about the pass and she will forward it along to you.

If you are looking at diving in Rangiroa, specifically Tiputa Pass, I would highly recommend diving with Raie Manta Club.

The are extremely experienced and can offer excellent tips to help you feel more comfortable with the dive experience. My husband is an advanced diver, and thoroughly enjoyed his dives in Rangiroa, all done with Raie Manta Club.

I second the recommendation for the Raie Manta Club. They have a website and email -- you should get in touch. Be extremely honest about how much diving and what type of diving she has done (so they don't see she's got an advanced qualification and think that she's more experienced than she is).

Depending on conditions on any particular day, you might have to kick hard at one point in the dive (for what seems like forever but which is probably a minute). We only had to do that once though, and we dove the pass almost every day we were there. It's an experience she won't want to miss.

Thanks very much for the information.

I will make sure that we are comfortable in doing the dive.

Thanks

Matthew
