We will be traveling to Huahine and Ta'haa later in Sept. We love to have Ameretto and coffee, as well as wine in our room while we relax, read, and enjoy the scenery. Are there stores in Huahine that carry liquor and wine? We have thought about purchasing some at the duty free on our way there, but not sure if there are restrictions for carry on with liquids on Air Tahiti as there are in the states. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Yes, Air Tahiti has the same restrictions so if you buy liquor at the duty-free, you'll have to repack it in your checked luggage when you arrive in Tahiti (so leave some room if you do that...we just packed bubble wrap & wrapped the bottles in that and then in our beach towels and had no breakage in spite of many inter-island trips). The supermarket in Fare on Huahine is huge and has lots of choices of wine & beer. I can't remember if there were other liquors/liqueurs there because we brought our own (but bought wine & beer there).

The supermarket in Fare does have a decent selection of liquors in the same aisle as the wine & beer. They also stock Tahiti Drink in the cooler section.

Ah, yes, Tahiti Drink! We did buy it there. Thanks for adding the info about liquors. I figured they'd probably have them. A tip about the wine. Do NOT buy the cheapest boxed white wine from Chile, unless you want to use it to remove paint, LOL!

thanks for info on the store. Not familiar with Tahiti Drink...is it a local mixed drink? Also, any suggestion on good wines you have found there that won't break the bank (more in to reds than whites) thanks again

the super marche in fare has a very good selection of wines. I prefer reds also so cannot comment on whites. the french wines are very reasonable. imported from calif. or other are more expensive. you can get a good merlot, shiraz for 9 to 12 USD.

If you like rum-based fruit drinks, you really have to try Tahiti Drink. It's premixed in a waxed carton...just realize it has lots of alcohol in it (someone in this forum didn't realize it & drank way too much the first time)!
