If you had 8 nights in Fakarava again, would you stay all the way at Raimiti or would split half and half with other resorts or pensions like the follows? If you would split, which one would you choose?
Fakarava Dream Rotoava Havaiki Pearl Guest House Maitai Dream Fakarava Hotel Motu Aito Paradise Pension Kiria Tetuakeho Pension Paparara Pension Tokerau Village Pension Vaiama Village Rotoava Pension Veke Veke Village Relais Marama Village de Rotoava Tetamanu Sauvage Tetamanu Village Vahitu Dream Mahiai
I was supposed to visit Tahiti again in the past August, but because I got some free entry tickets to watch the Bejing Olympic Game, so I canceled my Tahiti trip and went to Bejing instead. I'm planning to visit Tahiti in August next year. It seems I will be able to stay 8 nights at FAV and would like to seek for some advice and opinion. Thanks for any input in advance!

Well, since we stayed 6 nights there (and we had wanted to spend 7 but couldn't because of the timing of the flights back and the date hubby had to be back to work) then I'd say 8 nights there would suit us great! Mind you, we're very self-sufficient. We love to walk around & explore, sit and read, totally love snorkelling (which was a focus of our day-trips, but that might be because Maluha realized that's what we loved & we were their only guests for 4 1/2 of those days), and we were looking for total relaxation and being transported to a totally different place. So for us, 8 nights there would be paradise, but if you require a busier time, then you could split it (I've no idea where else I'd go, though, as we didn't stay anywhere else or even consider it).

We would also stay the full 8 days at Raimiti. There is nothing in FP like the south pass for snorkeling. And the food is not too shabby either.

If you want a change of pace and the total relaxing thing gets old for you, I would recommend Pension Havaiki also known as the Havaiki Pearl Guest House. We spent 4 nights there in 2004 and were really pleased with everything - the food, the location, the snorkeling, the accommodations, hosts who were very attentive and sensitive to your needs. They are located about a kilometer south of the village of Rotoava. They have bikes and you can explore all the way to the airport to the north where the pass stops you, or unlimited miles to the south. We enjoyed watching the rhythm of the village, observing the Polynesian low-key life style, being near the docks where boats came in, even attended church on Sunday morning. Very delightful and relaxing in a different way than Raimiti.

Thank you for all your advice.
It seems that Raimiti is the main talking subject in this forum, I don't know if it is overrated or it is really...really that good since I have never been there. Beside Raimiti, there are at least 13 more pensions/guest houses/resorts in FAV, but people here or even at other travel websites hardly talk about them.
Diving (for me) and snorkeling (for both my wife and me) are our first priority, being able to stay right next to the south pass (Tetamanu Village/Sauvage or Motu Aito) of course is what we really want. However, we don't want to miss the things at Raimiti that people rave about, so we are very indecisive.
Its seems the host of Raimiti will take you out everyday for excursion, like bird island, pink sand beach, south pass and blue lagoon, etc. I'm afraid if we stay at Tetamanu, the host will not bring us anywhere like Raimiti does, so I'm thinking about splittng 4 days at Raimiti and 4 days at Tetamanu Village/Sauvage.
Anymore thought?

Peter, some of those pensions are so small that they may or may not be in business any given day... When we were there last year, Tetamanu Village/Sauvage looked closed one day, then the next day we saw 2 guests there. We stayed at -you guessed it- Raimiti.

I think if you want to dive every day for 4 days, staying at either pass for those days sounds like a good idea. I do know people have arranged diving trips from Raimiti, but I doubt you'd get a daily one. So your plan sounds good to me (choose your days away from Raimiti by how many days you want to dive).

Peter, Jan Prince's Tahiti-guide reviews many of the smaller pensions that you listed.
