We are planning our 2nd trip to French Polynesia next spring and wanted to stay at Raimiti for 5 nights. Our travel agent told us (after doing some research) that Raimiti was primarily for locals and that only recently started accepting credit cards. She told us that we should pick a different place to stay, however, we are set on Raimiti after reading all the wonderful posts about it here.
Did anyone else run into this kind of trouble?
How did you go about booking at Raimiti?
Thanks for any help anyone can offer. FP Couple

For locals only? Quite honestly I think that is bullsh** Raimiti is too expensive and too far away from the main village/airport for locals who want to get away for a weekend or so.
For residents a 1 night stay for 2 at the St Regis, including flight Tahiti BB is cheaper than spending a weekend at Raimiti -just to give you an idea-
In order for a hotel/pension to accept credit cards they need to be branched up with the OSB (banking) system (unless done manually) in view of their location... well that would explain why they only recently started to accept CC
Why not contact them directly raimiti@mail.pf ?

Check their website http://www.raimiti.com/index-us.php. It has a contact and rate quote section so you can email them. The deposit and cost of stay was paid by cc to Linerava. The only thing we paid for while there was the booze we drank. We paid in xpf's the day we left.

Same as Denver Joe. They charged my credit card a week or two before we got there & we only had to pay cash at the end of our stay for the drinks (aside from water...it's free) we drank. Linerava has cc facilities for it. I suspect your TA is steering you elsewhere because of a lack of commission (we booked by ourselves).

Thanks for all the help so far.
We just spoke with our travel agent to clarify a few things. She said that the agencies that they work with "strongly advise against going to Raimiti" and that they are "unreliable". Also she stated that she'd been attempting to contact them for a week without any response. She said if we really want to go here we'd have to sign a release stating that the travel agency strongly advised against staying at Raimiti and we want to disregard their warning.

I think you need to look for a new Travel agent. We had the smoothest, best vacation to FP ever. The only thing that was a problem were the flights. Raimiti was great.

Ditto! DId your TA actually try to contact them at both email addresses? raimiti@mail.pf or linareva@mail.pf
Florian who usually answers all emails is presently not here but back early next week, even while away he answers his mail and forward all resa to Punua who "runs the show" on his behalf...
get another TA ! Did you try this site?

FP COUPLE:
Your travel agent doesn't know sqwat. I have been a part-time resident of Moorea since the early eighties and have known both the owners of Ramiti for years. They also have Linareva on Moorea. They for years have run a first class operation. It's time to find another TA. Why not use this web sites owner? Has your TA ever been to Tahiti? I can stay at my own home on Moorea but choose to go to Ramiti to get away from a phone or computer for a few days.

I can only add my experience to this conversation. Your TA doesn't what the heck he/she is talking about. We booked directly through the Raimiti website. They did much of the email correspondence from their sister property, Linareva, on Moorea. Florian answers most of the emails. On occasion, it does take a day or three to hear back from them, but usually it's within 24 hours.
Yes, they had just started accepting CC's at Raimiti when we went in Feb. Prior to that they had you pay cash for any drinks. But your stay was able to be charged to a CC through emails with Florian.
I think your TA is just 100% completely uninformed and unknowledgeable about Raimiti, and therefore protecting their a$$es by asking to you to sign a disclaimer.
