I have just recently booked our trip to Tuamotus, including 4 nites at Raimiti. I booked through our host, Tahiti Travel, but also shopped a bit at other large travel agencies. I found that the TA's I contacted, including our host, in general do not book "pensiones," and Raimiti is considered a pensiones. Don't ask me why, just seems to be the way it is. So, I booked it direct via their website instructions and email. After verifying dates, (which caused a change in the timing of the rest of my trip, so important was the Raimiti portion,) I provided them my credit card information via fax, as i am not comfortable sending credit card stuff over email. Since my trip is very soon (October), they charged me the 40 000 cfp as a deposit, and will charge my credit card for the rest two weeks ahead of my scheduled arrival. I have separate trip insurance through my credit card. It is unfortunate that your TA is giving you such a hard time. For this one portion, if you want RAimiti, do it yourself. That's the only advice I can give. In a month from now, I will be able to let you know how it all came out. As for now, my trip is booked, and i am starting to get the fever again. Tikehau, Manihi, Fakarava!!! Can't wait.

I think all of us that have been there have booked it using the same routine as Wannago. Very easy and definetly worth it. FP Couple, follow his routine and you should be fine.

I talk to a lot of travel agents just to see what they know about FP. Very few know the facts. Many travel agents (of course, not Tahiti Travel who runs this website) barely even know anything about the hotels and their respective attributes. Most have never been to FP and those that I've talked to that have, have done the cruise. One travel agent said that FP's seasons were the same as in Hawai'i (they're opposite), and could barely discuss intelligently about over-water-bungalows.
Just my opinion: Raimiti is more of a "make your own" reservation operation than one that TA's are familiar with. I'd dump your TA for serving you bad info and do the arrangements on your own. It's not that difficult. I've heard of no one that had problems getting their reservation in order through Florian or Eric. We're here to help if you decide to go that route as there are a number of Raimiti alums that know all the angles.

Wow - thanks for all the great information. We plan to continue pursuing Raimiti (probably on our own) thanks to all this information. This site continues to provide all the answers that we have needed for our trips.
Thanks so much to everyone.

Here is what I think the deal is, FP Couple. Your TA might not get a commission from Raimti.
The other possibility is that they genuinely have a false believe that it is a bad place, because in their thinking, a "good" place has to be a standard Western resort.
Just last year, we ran into problems because the wholesaler our TA deals with wasn't familiar with Vahine Island and wasn't "comfortable" booking us there. We decided for various reasons to go with the Taha'a (otherwise we would have just insisted on Vahine because we aren't about to let some wholesaler push us around). Apparently the deal with that was that the wholesaler had never visited Vahine before, or it had been over 8 years or something, and they didn't want to risk sending a client somewhere that they hadn't personally verified was quality. I guess I appreciate that on one level, but mostly I think it was out of line, since we'd done our own research.
