Rangi is choked with pearl farms. Should be able to arrange that easily enough. Rodjune's rangi trip report from a couple of years ago should be a good place to start for the names of farms. He's got lovely taste in pearls.

There's a vineyard on the west side of the atoll and a winery on the atoll between the passes. I think it's still there. I also recommend the Blue Lagoon as a day outing. It's unbelievable! I want heaven to look like this. Go on the first good day of weather as wind and rain can cancel trips out here because of the enormous white caps in the lagoon. The Paul Gaugain pearl farm was a real treat at very good prices. They have a tour of the farm and a pearl boutique with no pressure sales people. Great prices, too.

Great idea, check out their website, they just won a price as well, really fantastic. http://www.vindetahiti.pf/ they produce some 50.000 bottles a year!
Fishing is a great past time in the tuamotu's and you can do it lagoon side or ocean side, just need a rod, some lures and common sense

Rodjune/Poehere, thanks for this great tip about the winery(merci du tuyau!) What a great souvenir to bring back home. The problem is that I'll probably have to ship a case back home...!

Can anyone give me specific places to snorkel from shore? I'm on the Paul Gauguin in December, and we overnight in Rangi. I've read elsewhere that I can just go in the water by the pier where the tenders drop us off, on the opposite side from the pass itself (presumably the lagoon side.)

Also, can anyone tell me what the Pearl farm tour is like? I've done one on Manihi, so I know the general drill, just wondering what it's like on Rangi. I really enjoyed this on Manihi.
I heard one person at least, in the past, who said the vineyard tour wasn't great. No personal knowledge of this.

Hi All. We’re making our second trip to the area at the end of December and will be staying at the Novotel on Rangiroa the last 2 days of our trip. Sounds like we may not want to rely on the hotel to book activities for us.
Would like to hear some opinions on the different excursion and snorkel companies. Considering: Rangiroa Activities, Oviri Excursions, Snorkeling Rangiroa and Raira Lagon Pension. Would like to do a full day excursion to Blue Lagoon and drift snorkel the pass.
Any thoughts or considerations are much appreciated. Thanks!
