After Moorea, we flew with our friends to Raiatea, primarily to visit Katia and Teva who used to be on Moorea--the Poterie and Aquarium where Teva Yrondy made such beautiful pottery, sculpture, and pearl jewelry. They are building a house on land that her father gave her, right next door to her brother and his vanilla plantation and her sister across the driveway.

We had a wonderful visit with them and Katia was so happy to "share her island" with us. Her sister took us on a half island tour, we went to two wonderful restaurants, (also recommended by Jay at Club Bali Hai), the Sea Horse right in the town of Uturoa, and Napoli just outside of town.

We stayed in the bigger OWB's at Hawaiki Nui, the old Club Bali Hai Raiatea. We were right on the edge of the wall..great snorkeling, and I found that I really COULD snorkel without using my legs--doctor's orders, my back isn't ready for that kind of work yet. I put a child's blowup ring under my tummy-so there was no arched back, and breast stroked all over the place..I was so pleased!

We had been advised that the restaurant at the Hawaiki Nui was not particularly good, but our one dinner there was very good. As usual, we have found the beef that we ordered was pretty tough and gristly.. The service was good, they had several big groups there (including Rotary Club dinner) and we were quite pleased with the whole stay there.

Glad you had a good time Carol and that your "new" back worked just fine!
We too enjoyed our stay at Hawaiki Nui this summer. Husband really enjoyed the great and effortless snorkeling off the shelf in front of the OTWs. The hotel is really great value. don't you think?

I certainly did like the Hawaiki Nui. We did go look at some other places--we had stayed before at the Sunset Beach Motel, and found that the location of Hawaiki Nui was great. When we were first at that spot when it was one of the Bali Hai timeshares, we took a running jump off the deck and over the shelf into the deep water. That was in 1989--not to be done this time, for sure!
