Well, folks, just returned from our two weeks Tuamotu trip; Tikehau, Manihi, and Fakarava. Our third and best trip to FP. Working on a trip report with photos, but couldn't wait to thank you all immensely for alerting me to Raimiti. I can't begin to relay our wonderful stay there. It has been done here so eloquently already. Just say it was an awesome five days and one of the most beautiful places on earth. Thanks so much for this forum. Breaking News: Eric announced on our last day there that he would have hot water to each bungalow about the first week or so in November. (Not that I missed it terribly. Cold water was actually quite refreshing some times.) Now I think my user name should be "wannagoagin". Have a terrible set of the Tahitian blues today.

An official Raimiti alum. Looking forward to seeing your pics and reading about the details. I remember the cool showers being only uncomfortable in the late afternoon with a strong breeze.

That's great that they're getting hot water. It really was our only complaint since we like a hot shower when we get up in the morning (and the showers feel pretty cold at 6 a.m.!). Welcome to French Polynesian flu. There really is no cure.

The cold showers never bothered us. It was November and very hot. They always felt good. That being said, I wouldn't mind a warm shower every now and then. Especially after a long snorkel when I can get a little chill.

The cold showers didn't bother us either. We just didn't take our shower in the morning. We took it in the afternoon...after the water had warmed up a bit...and even when it was a bit cold, it felt good after our afternoon of activities. But, on the other hand, I certainly wouldn't turn down a nice hot shower!
Damn...I REALLY want to go back to Raimiti. :-(

Well, Suki, you'll just have to leave the hot water turned off and take cold showers while you're there...just so you can know what it was like when we went. :-)
Actually you know what part of the shower was much worse than the cold water ...all the rocks and shells inlayed into the shower floor. It really hurt our feet and toes and on those shells. We had to be careful how and where we put our feet while showering....those long spiral shells really hurt! :-) We finally started leaving our flip flips on while we showered.

Hot water sounds great to me! But we did find that if we showered right after snorkeling that the tap water felt warmer than the ocean and that was just right. Patti, I loved your description of the shells in the shower...didn't take long to learn to wear your flip flops, did it?
I also was a bit flustered by the really steep rise of the steps going in to the bungalow..quite a step up or down, particularly in the middle of the night. When Mahlua explained it was to keep the land crabs from crawling up, I immediately decided it wasn't so hard after all.

Yeah, those tapua are sort of creepy in the middle of the night and I for one wouldn't want to step on one getting out of bed!!!
Glad to hear that there will be hot water available for showering....I am duch a diva I guess because I surely love a warm shower at the end of a day in the sun, sand, and sea.
We'll be there in 2010...fingers crossed!
