When kids are growing up in Moorea and need a secondary school, what do they do ? Do they they have to move ? Or is it easy to go by boat from Moorea to a secondary school in the main island ?
Thanks

Pretty sure they go to school on Tahiti island...take the ferry back and forth every day to school....or maybe stay with relatives on Tahiti during the week and go home on weekends. The ferry is really a pretty quick option...only 30 minutes...no different than many kids who take a 30-40 minute bus ride to school every day here in the States.

My local friends on Moorea have their teenagers go to Papeete for secondary school (called "college" there even though it's the equivalent of high school in the U.S. -- "University" is what they call post-secondary education). The kids live in the school dorms in Papeete and come home by ferry to Moorea on the weekends and for all school vacations (like right now, there is a 2-week school holiday going on in FP).

Great info thank you.
In case kids would go to "college" with the ferry, do you know how long it takes besides the ferry to go to the college from the ferry port ? Do they have to take a bus ? Is it safe ? Sorry, you may smile at such questions, but I live in Mexico now, and I would never let my kids take the bus on their own there....
Thank you

The high school ("college") is fairly close to the ferry dock, and the school provides a bus. The ferry ride from Moorea is 30 minutes, and the kids have special "student" discount passes. Most kids commute very early on Monday morning -- the 5 a.m. ferry from Moorea, and return home on Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, depending on class schedule (some have classes Saturday morning).

Phil- your comment about living in Mexico brought back memories for me. We lived in Monterrey, Mexico in the 1970's and our preschool daughter took the Anglo-Espanol schoolbus to school each morning. She actually loved doing it! Where do you live in Mexico? Thanks.
