Hi All,

I wanted provide some insight to our wonderful experience in Moorea in February of 2008. We stayed there for 10 nights and never left the island for Bora Bora.

First off, we stayed at the Airport Motel since our plane landed at 11 pm Tahiti time. If you're not in shape or don't feel like walking...take a taxi Motel. My wife and I walked up the hill only to be greeted by a few wild dogs...it was no big deal; they are just looking for a handout. The Motel was ok...it was what we expected. We had Room 216.

The next day we got up bright and early and took Le Truck to the Ferry. We were the only Gringos on Le Truck which was fine, some young woman told us where to get off (it wasn't hard to figure out) and then she walked us to the Ferry.

The Ferry was great! They have ice cold beers and food on the Ferry. It takes about 45 minutes to get to Moorea and the views are breathtaking.

Once we arrived to Moorea, we hopped on the "Circle Bus" that goes around the island. It was about 3 USD per person. It was a great experience to travel with the natives.

Once we arrived at the Sheridan, we were amazed! We were greeted with Pineapple juice and Lays. Our room number was 87. It was the farthest one out and had unbelievable 180 degree views. This room number is HIGHLY recommended as there are only 4 with this caliber view/privacy at the Sheridan and this one was by far the best. (Please note, all of the rooms at the Sheridan that are bungalows are great, however this one is at the end of the pier. The one thing we noticed about the garden ones is that there isn't much wind, therefore it is much warmer on land than it is being out on the water.) They Sheridan is a great resort, with a nice white beach, a huge pool and unreal snorkeling! We went to the Intercontinental and the Sofital, both didn't compare to the snorkeling at the Sheridan. The only thing that we felt could have been better was the evening food. The food for lunch was good; however, we ended up going out to eat almost every night. The 1st night we went to Aito, it was decent and close to the resort, however, we quickly learned that the Mayflower is the BOMB! I had the fish sampler, it was fantastic. The only issue with the Mayflower is they don't have a pickup like most of the places do. So we rented a scooter for the day and scooted over there. There are no views there; however, the food is a 10. I would recommend maximizing the rental of a scooter or a car and going to get some extras from the local grocery store to get some beer and some munchies. The next day we took the ATV tour to Cooks bay and to the farm which was one of the coolest things we did there. Allos has wood fire Pizzas...they're expensive but good (we're from Chicago and we know ;) ) Chea Rogers was another good place to eat...they feed the stingrays while you eat. The Blue Pineapple has great food and unreal views. This is a great place to eat lunch during a scooter ride or if you rent a car.

We also got the canoe breakfast that comes right to the back deck...it was a perfect way to start off the morning. Later that day we went to Hero's Tour to feed the Sharks and play with the stingrays. This tour is like no other I have ever been on in the US or Mexico. This is truly something you'll remember for the rest of your life!

Let me know if you have any questions!

Yep...finally the exchange rate is looking good...and the airfares are now totally unaffordable. When will both get lined up again??? :-)

Boiler: I think you are enterprising to take Le Truck to the ferry dock and to your hotel on your first trip to FP....good for you!!!
Tell me please: have they started any rennovations at the Sheraton? Some of the bungalows were getting a bit dated and shabby on the inside and the thatched roofs were in need of replacing. The Sheraton is in a beautiful setting, isn't it? We feel like we are on our honeymoon too when we stay there!

I think the bungalows are pretty much the same, however I did notice that they were replaced many of the thatched roofs. I hope they replace the chef for the next time we go. ;)
