since no one is answering, here's what I know. You can get a pension-a family run place for about $100 a night in Bora Bora. You can go up to $10,000 a night or more. Depends on your budget and your wishes of a place to stay. Look on this website and it will give you an idea of the specials to Bora Bora. Food is expensive even if you buy from the grocery store. Bora Bora is the most expensive. The other island such as Moorea and Huahine have camping which is really cheap-about $20/night . These prices are in US dollars. You can eat French bread for about 52 cents a loaf. If you don't mind eating peanut butter or cheese sandwiches for every meal and eating fresh local fruit from the market, you can get by inexpensively food-wise.

Hi, graeme! I have relatives in Leamington!
We've had 2 trips to French Polynesia. The first was in fancy resorts (an overwater bungalow on Bora Bora and a beach bungalow on Moorea). We spent 12 nights, ate at a restaurant once/day and bought food at the grocery store for the other 2 meals, hit a nicer restaurant twice and did 2 activities. Total cost was $17,000 Cdn! Second trip we stayed at pensions. The first on Moorea we included breakfast & dinner, the second on Huahine was a rental bungalow & we cooked for ourselves & the third was on Fakarava (we stayed at Raimiti where they provide all your meals). We also had a night in Tahiti. It was a 17-night trip and cost just under $10,000 Canadian. You can go cheaper than that, but it's still a very expensive place to visit. I can't see travelling from Ontario for just one week and we think you should see at least 2 different islands if you go so that adds up. Right now, airfare is the real killer. You can always find less expensive places to stay (about $100 US per night), but the airfare to get to FP is high as is the interisland flying (you can take a ferry to Moorea from Tahiti, though, and that's cheaper). Start saving your money...it's well worth it!
The travel agent here is great, but you have to stay a certain length at a traditional resort in order for them to book you (I tried to book my last trip with them, but we stayed at pensions). Also, don't forget the risk (small as it is) of booking with an out-of-country agent.

Another good resources are the several travel books that you can find at bookstores that focus on FP. You'll find a wealth of knowledge about prices on accomodations, ratings, kinds of food, and things to see. That's how I learned a lot about FP before I learned more from the web.

You can always search internet before going there for cheap hotels at affordable prices. You will get plenty of information available there. And it would be a life time experience to visit an island like this.

Have you been to FP, lizabrown? If not, then where have you been? As an Australian, I am very interested in options? What islands have you been to?
