Brand new to scuba and looking for advice on where to go and who to use in Bora Bora. We have a trip scheduled for later March 2009, staying at BB Lagoon Resort, 5 nights. My wife does not dive so not sure how many dives I'll get in. From the posts and pix I've seen, it looks awesome.

Hey TxTerrier. If you're staying at the Lagoon Resort, you would be better off diving with Blue Nui (based at Pearl just across the lagoon). They have good packages of 5 or 10 dives. My favourite site is Muri Muri (just off the airport on the outside of the reef). My wife also does not dive and we found it no problem, as you are back by about 10:30 - 11:00 in the morning after two dives. We picked up divers from Lagoon Resort every day (we stayed at Pearl). Here is a link to the underwater photos that I took at Bora Bora and Taha'a in 2006.

You'll love the place!

Gary.

Thanx TxTerrier. The photos of the pregnant Grey and the Napeolean and the Barracuda and the circling sharks (you get the jist) are all from Muri Muri. Great site (but pretty strong current, so stay close to an experienced diver). See if you can dive Anau (in between the village of Anau and Le Meridien). Apparently the schooling Manta's are back!!!!! It is, to this date, the best dive (or at least in comparison to a 200ft dive on Abington Reef in the Coral Sea) I have ever done in over 200 dives. The only place the Manta's school in an enclosed lagoon. VERY IMPRESSIVE.
Enjoy, and make sure you take a camera, because I didn't have one in 1999.
Gary.
