Wan was not happy with the Sheraton for the last few years. The recent work problems is still more of a Wan thing than Sheraton and I think he is going to use them as the bad guy in this deal. Also with the merging of the Le Meridien Starwood had 7 Hotels in French Polynesia. Way too many for them so it is mutual I am sure.

Do you think that service will worsen while the transition is taking place?

With the actual room occupancy there is very little chance service will or can worsen...

I received a letter from the hotel saying that they will no longer be managed by Starwood effective 1/25. They said they would honor paid reservations and rates booked already. I spoke with someone from corporate Starwood who will be confirming my rate and 'deal'(stay 5 pay 4) directly with the hotel. She did mention that there may be some challenges faced by clients that are booked on Starwood points. I was hoping for an upgrade, but that isn't looking too good. Also, the letter did not mention anything about the Hilton and just mentioned the owner's name.

Non-one is officially confirming the Hilton deal yet (despite HIlton having the resorts on their website and the whole of FP knowing about it) legal stuff.... Most resorts are virtually sitting empty so your chances of getting an upgrade could be quite good actually since they're pretty desperate for guests. When are you travelling?

On January 15, 2009, The Sheraton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa will no longer be a part of STARWOOD Hotels & Resorts. Although it will remain in operation and all existing and new bookings will be honored, the hotel will not be participating in any STARWOOD sponsored programs, including STARWOOD Preferred Guest, airline partner or other partner affinity programs. Therefore, no SPG points or airline miles will be awarded for stays from January 15, 2009.
Louis Wane (owner)Societes des Hotels Tahitien S.A. will honor bookings made on Starwood points.

I got a confirmation today directly from the hotel saying they will honor the Pay 4 stay 5 deal, but no upgrades using points. If they are pretty empty, maybe they will upgrade us if we simply ask? It is Spring Break in the US and Easter and Passover fall on the times we are staying if that makes any difference.

It has become official now that all operational managament for the "new" Hiltons) will be in the hands of the SPM group (South Pacific Management) the same group that has the Pearl Resorts and Le Taha'a.
It has also been announced that resorts will operate in 2009 on a less than 30% occupancy (!!!) so they should really be happy to have you Postcard and reward your visit with un upgrade LOL
