Sad that you have to "negotiate" with the unions! No tourists means no business, you have to close. Pretty simple, except for the unions.
St Regis had 0 guests, there is talk that the Intercontinental will (temporarily) close the Moana beach and refer guests to Thalasso, Novotel is closing April 1st.
Wow, interesting info Poehere!!!! A couple questions:

1. When did the St Regis have 0% occupancy? Currently? ~100 fantastic rooms and ZERO guests?!?!?!?!?!? Wow, that's something!!!

2. Is there an estimated timeframe for when IC Moana might close and send guests over to IC Thalasso? Soon? Or months from now? If you are planning a summer trip to BB, now might be an ideal time to book cheap Garden Bungalows at IC and hope for an upgrade over to a nice OWB at Thalasso. Could save people some coin!!!! Closing Moana temporarily actually makes a lot of sense as it would save them a lot in labor costs, electricity, etc..................IMHO.

I agree. It might be a window of a few days when we might
already know about Le Moana closing and we could still book it
online. That would be a great deal.
Poehere, help :-)
Any updates about other hotels would be great, specifically
the Four Seasons.

Not good, but sooner rather than later the 5 star resorts would have to compete with each other. Obviously with the lack of travel to FP, they will either close or refurbish (not an option for 4 Seasons or St Regis). Maybe BB has reached (or breached) its limit of hotels? Bungalow Alley overfull?

I think it may have been at it's limit BEFORE the Thalasso, St Regis, and Four Seasons were built. It's hard to add around 300 high ends rooms, when the hotels that were already there were rarely 100% full. They had the "buid it and they will come" mentality. But, that hasn't happened. They were really banking on the New York market and the Japanese market taking off and they never did. And now, with the economy in the downslide it is in, it has only made it worse. With so many high end rooms on one island, they have to be knocking each other out....there's just not enough high end travelers around. And obviously, with the Four Seasons, being the newest of the new, and most luxurious of the luxurious, it is going to grab the most guests.

Memory lane... when there was just the HBB, Marara and CM

I'll post asap when concrete info comes out

Basically one of the real problems is indeed the increment of the number of hotel rooms over the past years and the "stable" number of visitors on a yearly basis (meaning 2008 figures were virtually same as 10 years ago) so difficult in that sense to fill up the rooms. Concerning the new hotels/resorts, they (rather the owner of the property) has the obligation to operate for at least 5 years, otherwise they'll lose their fiscal incentives which means big money for most of them (up to 60% of total investment for the local investors) and consequently if they close a resort within that 5 year timeframe a reimbursement will follow, hence the prob for the new properties
In general employees on temporary contracts have been laid off in most hotels (and other business' around FP) and those on indefinite contracts work 50%, it is a way of trying to get over the difficult times.

Guess everyone is waiting for the new government to take measures especially in terms of airfares both internationally ATN and inter island, job protection and other measures (taxes etc), unfortunately so far all we have heard is their dreams to build an international airport in the Marqueses or acquire their own cruiseship... (ATN n° 2) the present situation must make people thing twice about the prices they charge (hotels, activities transportation, f&b) and come back down to earth, recalculate and upgrade the various services to ensure a total package and offers in line with the amount of money people pay to come here

Not really a fair hit at the Unions. Every contract has clauses dealing with layoffs and closing facilities. Honoring a contract seems to be pretty simple for everyone in business unless that contract is between a business and union workers.
