What were the dates that you went and what was the weather like? Starting to hear from people that it has been rainy and cold/cooler lately. We leave this week. The limited forecasts I've seen have said that as well. Any thoughts?

bart.....let me say this.....if the weather was any more perfect i don't know what i would have done with myself.....i woke up one morning around 3am and it was pouring harder than i've ever seen rain come down, by the time the sun came up you would have never known. our last day it did become windy causing it to feel cooler, but nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the response. What dates were you there? Any memorable Bora Bora sites to see and not miss? Also, if were not at the Sofitel Motu can we still get there and to the coral gardens for snorkeling or do we have to do a tour to get there?

Just interested in the need for a sweater or light jacket at night, we are leaving on the 5th of November for nine days.

My wife and I were there from the 21st to the 26th. The weather went from absolutely perfect hot but dry to just slightly less than perfect, still hot but also humid. always sunny. i never wore more than shorts and short-sleeve shirt -- never needed anything else. my wife did put on a light sweater on one or two nights because the wind cooled things down a bit, but for me it was a relief from the baking sun. we didn't see a drop of rain during our entire stay. (though as frogstem said, it may have rained during the night while we slept but i didn't SEE it

To bart --
supposedly the motu is off-limits to folks not registered at the hotel, except for dinner at the restaurant, with reservations. the boat taxi will ask for your room number - but they don't check up on you. maybe you can reserve a table for dinner there and just show up REAL early -- but then you dont necesarily want to go to dinner in your wet shorts and aquasox. perhaps you will meet others who are staying there during your travels and transfers, and you can be their guests on the motu?

What kind of room did you stay in at the Motu? And if OW, could you give any clues as to which #'s are better (water depth, secluded, etc.)

What would you recommend doing or not doing at the hotel? How as the food? Was it a pain to get off the Motu and back?

I'm going on Dec. 30. Can't wait.

Hi Dennis. I was just at the Motu also....returned on the 5th. We were in bungalow 128 and if you read MMK's trip report she also felt that this was the ultimate bungalow to have. It is probably over the deepest water. It must have been 10-12 feet deep under the bungalow. Also this is one of the few bungalows that actually faces the island of Bora Bora and Mt Otemanu. Most of the bungalows either face out into the lagoon or back towards the motu. There was a moray eel that lived just off the front and one day a shark swam under our bungalow. Also there is enough space between bungalows that we never felt that our privacy was an issue. We didn't eat at the restaurant on the island for dinner, only breakfast. My husband is not a huge seafood fan and their menu is pretty limited and pricey. We ate at La Bounty, excellent value and great food and within walking distance, Bloody Mary's and TopDive. All were great. The shuttle boat was ALWAYS available to us. The longest we had to wait and this was only one time was maybe 10 minutes late one night. Usually we didn't have to wait at all....it was sitting there waiting for us. The service was excellent on the motu. One piece of advice....bring your own snorkel gear. As nice and upscale as the Sofitel Motu is, their equipment is awful. They have the old fashioned one piece round masks. The rubber was really old and worn and they leaked like a sieve. My husband broke his mask and had to use theirs one day until we could buy a new one. Surprisingly enough...it wasn't all that expensive to buy it there at a dive shop near Vaitape. We only did the 4x4 tour while there and I highly recommend it. It was so much fun. We spent most of our 5 days just snorkeling and relaxing. We snorkeled at the coral gardens on the backside of the motu and also right under and around the bungalows. It was awesome. You will have the time of your life.

dennis --

We stayed in an overwater, #125. Down 3 units from where Kristy was. Ours didn't face Bora Bora, but faced the little motu to the left of the hotel motu. This was not a problem for me -- I saw plenty of the main island from other spots. The water there was about 5'6" deep off the deck, and got deeper as you moved toward the main island, shallower around the motu. The snorkeling was spectacular, even right off the deck. I had an encounter with a 6' manta and an equally large moray eel. Our bungalow had a fantastic sunrise vantage point (sliding door opened to the east), which was great, because we were up at 5 or 5:30 every morning, due to jetlag, time difference, weird food, ealry nites, etc. I'll have a bunch of pictures up on my site soon, will post here when ready. If you like, I can email you a scan of the Motu resort map.
