Hello all, I have seen some pictures of stone tiki statues underwater amongst corals, somewhere in Moorea. Apparently it is a well-known snorkel site. Can anyone tell me what it is called and how I might be able to visit it? I'll be on Moorea for the weekend of 28 Feb/1 Mar 2009. Thanks, Suzanne

There is a well known Tiki diving site (75 feet) at the North Western side of the island called the Hauru point but on the ocean side (outside of the reef) or the tiki "garden" left by an artist in shallow water is I think in Opunohu bay on the NW side just before getting to the village of Papetoai

I could be wrong (and someone please correct me if I am), but I think they are located in Opunohu Bay. The site is called "Le Tiki." Any of the lagoon snorkeling excursions will take you there -- a good one is www.dolphinlagoonarium.com, email is courset.loisirs@mail.pf.

These tikis were put there on purpose, right? That's what I have always understood. It's not like it's real cultural artifacts or anything???

Abandoned project by an artist or something , it is in the area at the end of Opunohu bay when the road curves to the left going to Papetoai, on the right hand side you have this small cocoterai at the water's edge, it is in the shallow water there I believe.

lol you found that pretty good! I am not sure about the exact location but it is somwhere between the NW side of the Opunohu bay and the village of Papetoai. It is not something that you should do on your own but rather on a guided tour! The artist portrays part of the situation when the protestant church started to convert the tahitians who consequently had to get rid of their tiki's and threw them in the water...
The diving site outside the reef at Hauru point (motu Fareone) is also called Tiki as there is a Tiki at around a depth of 20 m. It is an area know for lots of lemon sharks abd very popular with (scuba)divers

I had a Eurocar brochure that had a picture of one of those tikis under water (part showing the island itself), and thought that I could probably find the location of it based on the picture of the island and landmarks. I definitely want to check this out on my next trip.
