Anybody doing either total solar eclipse cruise (2009 or 2010) on the Paul Gaugin?

Bora Bora Cruises
TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

I think my wife is going to give me a "out of house" pass for the eclipse in FP. We've talked about this for the past two years. I think 2010 may be a possibility but definitely not 2009. I also know that one of the eclipses goes directly over Easter Island. That would be cool to be there as well.

Do you know of anybody planning trips to the Tuamotos in path,
as you mentioned? Right now, PG plans to be at sea, further west. That means no telescopes.
It also goes over Mangaia (Cooke Islands) but eclipse already started and dawn and another agency has reserved every bed, school and church on the very small island.
Hikueru appears to be the most accessible. Tatakato will have (slightly) longer totality and sun will be a little higher.
Yes Rodjune, this same eclipse goes over easter island - weather stats look better for FP.

I recall posting for someone last year... let me find out, best way is to get to the tuamotu's on your own, unless you want to do a cruise? These little atolls have virtually no infra structure but once you get there the people are happy to have you!

Air Tahiti has a flight once a week to Tatakoto (Sunday) and Hikueru (Tuesday), cost appr. 55.000 cfp, flights are carried out with eiter a Twin otter (like Air Moorea) or Beechcraft (like Air Archipel) very bumpy rides...
There are 2 different boats servicing (1x month) these atolls in the East Tuamotus, don't know if it would be recommendable though...
Usually you can get lodgings either with the atoll agent for Air Tahiti or someone from the townhall but it will be very simple.

BTW did you know that one can see the tool bag (dropped accidentally by Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper during a space walk) "flying over" with a pair of binoculars lol interesting too! According to the orbit path and data it passes over FP tomorrow ...
