Just wondering what is the most economical way to get to Matira from Le Meridien and back. We know we can get a shuttle from LM to the dock on the mainland and we know that we can hire a car on the mainland. We only need a transfer in the morning and a transfer back in the evening because we will be at Fati's getting tattooed all day. Would a taxi be an option or a water taxi from LM to ?? (Sofitel Marara, Le Maitai, Novotel or Moana)?

Just got an e-mail from Nathalie at Le Meridien. I know it's a bit weird posting an answer to your own question, but I thought it might help others.

Ia orana,

The best way to go to Matira point is to take the free shuttle that will bring you to Anau Base located on the main island facing the hotel and then take a taxi by the land to get to Matira (3000 xpf for 2 per way)

Water taxi are available but not as serious as the taxi by the land.

You could attempt to walk next door to the IC Thalasso and crash their free boat over to IC Moana which is at Matira Pt. Of course I'm not sure how closely the boat drivers check to make sure if you are a hotel guest or not. My guess would be not that closely since not many people would attempt it. But it could save you $65 and some hassle getting 2 taxis so it might be worth it. ;-) Good luck.

This might be something that I might try, I would think they might cehck more for the return trip back to make sure you are a guest, or do they encourage visitors to spend money at their resorts?

Does anyone else know if you are able to rent bikes or scooters near where the Le Meridien shuttle drops off?

It is the culture of the people to be generous by nature. small gifts especially for children are a more acceptable way to show your appreciation
