My wife and I are starting to plan time in FP, this will be our first time in FP. Previous favorite places are St John USVI and Belize.
If people could provide their impressions of Huahine vs Moorea it would be great. Comparison of hiking, beaches, snorkeling, general attitude and pace are especially helpful.
We're not very touristy but like a variety of activities. Night life and shopping don't really matter.
We're planning to spend time on Tikehau as well. Just having a hard time deciding on Huahine or Moorea.
TIA

I think there's a lot more to do on Moorea. It's more set up for tourists (more restaurants, more big resorts, easier transportation from the ferry, etc.). It's an excellent first-time island to visit (and many of us keep going back because we love it so much). And (this might not seem like a big deal, but something we really noticed) is that the electrical cables are buried on Moorea (so all of your photos will be beautiful & you won't have overhead lines cutting through them). There are more companies who do 4x4 tours and lagoon tours and ray feedings, picnics, etc. The mountains are incredible (careful if you rent a car because it's hard not to sight-see while you're driving & the roads are very winding). The Belvedere is not to be missed...the two bays straddling Mount Rotui is an incredible site.
Huahine is less touristy, a bit more rustic & natural (some people compare it to Moorea 20 or 30 years ago). You're more likely to need to speak French here (in our experience, at least, though likely not at the bigger resorts/resort-like places). People tend to visit Huahine on a later trip. Making arrangements (especially if you aren't going to a large resort) requires a bit more planning.
Editted to answer a couple of more questions. Beaches? Similar--on Moorea the beach at the Sofitel is excellent as is the beach at the south end of Huahine. Snorkelling? Excellent on both, depending on where you snorkel. People are incredibly friendly on both islands, but I found more English spoken on Moorea. Pace? Very laid-back and relaxed on Moorea (more than you've probably experienced before). Huahine...moreso. You really can't go wrong with either island but I think the geography/views on Moorea are superior (whereas we fell in love with Huahine's town of Fare and feel at home on Huahine...but it helps that we speak a fair bit of French).
