This morning it was sadly announced that the Starflyer will leave the Polynesian waters as per February 2010.

TahitiTravel offers excellent deals for cruising the magnificent lagoons of French Polynesia.
We highly recommend the Bora Bora Cruises for luxurious intimacy (actually a v.good value compared to the cost of a stay at a 5 star resort) or the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Paul Gaugin for a deluxe but more traditional cruise experience.
Check our Cruises page for more information

We are going on the Star Flyer in Sept. of this year and looking forward to a wonderful trip. What is the reason that Star Flyer is pulling out of FP and will this affect upcoming trips?

Hey, they just got there didnt they? Not sure if they are going to find a better tourist atmosphere anywhere else in the world right now.

PA~ Yep, just last year. So if they leave in Feb '10, they will have been there exactly 2 years.
Obviously it has not been a successful location for them.

We were recently on the Royal Clipper. Talk was that they were not doing very well in FP. But they had signed a five year contract with the FP government? Our Royal Clipper trip was sold out.

The five year contract turned out to be illegal and was cancelled by the French High Commissioner, the big boss from Monaco was here and said they put in 80% of their total marketing budget in FP / Starflyer and although 2008 was ok 2009 is looking disastrous. The company is suposed to have another ship build but cancelled / postponed the order, so the Starflyer will go to the area where the new ship was suposed to sail (I believe Europe)

Have a trip coming up in late Sept, will this pull out affect the quality of service during these last months that the ship will be in FP. We are so sorry to hear Star Flyer is not going to be in FP anymore. Have been on the Royal Clipper and it is such a wonderful experience.

We were on the Star Flyer for an 11 day cruise (2/15 to 2/26/09). There were only a couple of empty cabins. They were having a lot of equipment problems at that time (like no AC in the tropics!!!). I understand that they've now made all the necessary repairs. The problem seems to be that FP is remote from their suppliers so getting something fixed is difficult. In the Med or even the Caribbean, problems can be fixed fairly easily. Getting parts and expertise to FP presents a far greater challenge. I guess sailing ship parts are fairly exotic and not avalable locally.
Food and service aboard the Star Flyer was excellent. The wine steward was just amazing (he knew our names, cabin number and preferences from the first bottle we ordered). The food service in the dining room was excellent and our cabin steward worked hard to serve our needs. I have only compliments for these people. I don't think you have to worry about a service decline just because the Star Flyer is relocating. The crew is international and signs long term contracts with Star Clippers.

My husband, Tim, and I are going on 3 September. Perhaps we will meet Oscar. Very much looking forward to the trip, which follows a week in our Club Bali Hai overwater.
