The airfares are killing me too, even more so my girlfriend. I'm going to Hawaii because I have these stupid vouchers to use and even with that it didn't make economic sense to fly to Tahiti right now.
I'm not expecting the $300 fares to return, but $600-$800 shouldn't be unreasonable.

I can see if tourism was just skyrocketing that they could charge whatever they want for airline fare and people would pay it. Since FP does need the tourism dollars, these sky high fares make no sense at all.

Isn't ATN owned partly by the Government? If so, you'd think somebody from The Office of Tourism would walk down the hall and say....hey, let's try and lower some fares......!!!! But, not everybody has common sense.

ATN just posted a special for Tahitians to go to LAX, for 47000 XPF round trip... At the current exchange rate, that about $560 USD. Now WHY can't they do the same for the LAX-PPT route??

But the length of stay is 5 days max if I'm reading the french correctly. Even if it was offered to us silly tourists, I for one would not go for 5 days....ain't worth it to endure the hassle of LAX for 5 days, LOL!
Pago, right on! Seems common sense is a scare commodity these days...
