Long time! I am not sure if you remember me, but you did a huge favor for me! My name is chris and I was the person who dropped a special bottle of alcohol in the exit of US customs... You brought one back for me when you were in Tahiti. Well, I am going back to Moorea and Bora Bora for my honeymoon, Lisa and I are getting married on April 19th. I thought I would drop you a note, let you know I am heading back and thought I would offer the same favor in return.

Hope all is well!
Chris

Chris&Lisa:
First of all, Congrats to you on your upcoming wedding and your honeymoon. We wish you many years of health and happiness together!
hamara is a generous, thoughtful kind of guy, isn't he! And you are too to think about returning the favor. He's on the boards regularly so I'm sure he'll be checking in soon. In the meantime, you might be able to find him at Farehamara.com.
Best of luck and Manuia, vai

I'm still standing and taking on air every day. Yes I do remember bringing back the bottle with the glass pineapple in it.
Bubble wrap,a piece of PVC pipe, and tape the ends of the PVC with
duck tape works every time. Even if it rolls off a luggage cart!

Congrats on the upcoming marriage and remember Chris to ALWAYS get the last two words YES Madam or Yes Dear It has for me for over 50 years.

thank you!
i am asking around so if you see these same questions elsewhere, that is why. My mom is origianlly from tahiti, and although she currently lives in the states, her and my dad are considering moving back to tahiti or moorea and me and my family would like to move as well. I have done some reading and realize that it is very hard to get a long term visa, but was wondering if it would make a diffence that my mom is tahitian and never gave up her french citizenship. her and my dad would like to start a business there and i was wondering if they would be able to hire my husband and i to work for them, or if we would be able to get a visa if the french govt knew that we would not work there (my husband may be able to keep his job). we also have lots of family on both tahiti and moorea- would this help us? Any answers or opinions would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

Ia Orana iva, if your mom still has the French citizenship for her it will be no problem at all, she is free to reside, work etc in FP, for you and your dad it is a different matter, even married to a French citizen will require a longterm visa (supplied by the French authorities) and for work a working permit (supplied by the FP government !) In order for your mom to apply or be a guarantee for you and your dad she'll have to prove that she's able to support you two whilst in FP, so the DRCL (dep that handles long stay visa requests) will need all sorts of docs (like home ownership in Tahiti -or proof that you can pay rent-, medical insurance, income). In general it is not a good idea to start asking for a work permit as it would indicate that you cannot support yourself whilst residing in FP-any case a work permit can only be supplied after a longterm visa has been granted-, at this time there are 11,000 unemployment which is enormous for FP and besides your dad would need a sponsoring employer (ie someone that will be able to convince the FP government that your dad has qualities and experiences that are not available locally...)
Feel free to ask!

oh, ok. thanks for all the great advice! looks like there is lots of bumps in this road! since my husband can work from anywhere (he fly's where his company needs him to be) and would actually be bringing money into the FP economy, would the govt be okay with that? or is it the same process for everyone with no exceptions?
