IC Moorea - Garden vs. Beach bungalows

I stayed in an OW bungalow at the IC Moorea in 2003, so I didn't pay much attention to the garden and beach bungalows at the time. We are returning this November and I'm debating as to which one to book. Do the garden bungalows have any sort of ocean view? Is it worth an extra $450 for five nights to go from Garden to standard beach or another couple hundred for premium beach? We're Ambassador Club members, so we're already booking one level lower than what we decide we want due to the free upgrade. I suppose we may get lucky and get upgraded more than one level, but definitely can't count on that.

We stayed in a beach bungalow at IC Moorea and loved it! The garden bungalows were all tucked in behind the beach bungalows and I don't think any really had much of a view of the lagoon. Personally, I think it's well worth booking whatever you need to in order to end up with a beach bungalow. I'm not sure which ones are premium beach...I think we had 410 or 411 (it's been a few years, though, so I'm not positive...they were in the first stretch of beach bungalows going away from the main beach in the front of the pool area).

Thanks for the reply Old Wife! Looking at the IC Map, you must have been in 310 or 311 in a Premium Beach bungalow. I'm pretty convinced that we should upgrade to garden to be able to get at least a beach bungalow, but now I'm debating as to whether to spend yet another $200+ to get a premium beach bungalow. Of course, we'll end up paying about 75% more over the price of booking Lanai and getting Garden that way. Ugh, decisions, decisioins. We're already going on a 10 nt cruise, so this is just a little add on before we go home.
Oh yeah, here is the link to the map: http://www.tahiti-explorer.com/ubb-attachments/31-Map-of-IC-Moorea.jpg

Thanks for the map. Yes, we were in 311 and we thought 310 would have been the perfect beach bungalow (it had a wider view around it, especially of the mountains going into the sea to the right of it). You definitely don't want 312...it has a very poor view of the lagoon (we thought it should have been called a garden bungalow). Mind you, I think someone who posts/posted here loved that one because it felt more private. 305 to 410 are located on a shallow strip of water (that had quite a few sea cucumbers when we were there!) and you look out at the back of the overwater bungalows. That didn't appeal to us. 309 might not be too bad as a standard beach, but they won't guarantee you certain bungalows so it would be risky to hope for that one if you didn't want to settle for 305 to 410. Everyone's different in what they want. For us, we absolutely love to sit out on our deck reading, drinking coffee, and looking around so we really enjoy being directly on the beach. But you could always bring your stuff to the beach and sit on the chairs that are sprinkled along there if you get a garden bungalow. And the area back by the garden bungalows was very nice--"gardenny", if you know what I mean.

Thanks again Old Wife. This is really helpful information. I can't believe we didn't pay more attention to all them when we were there last time, but we were in an OW and just looked at those I guess!

We've twice stayed in beach bungalows at the IC. The garden bungalows have much less, if any, view of the beach. Because they are surrounded by foliage, they often get less breeze than the beach bungalows and the therefore hte air seems more humid in the garden areas.

Hmm, that's good to know also. I'm toying with the idea of leaving our reservation the way it is (lanai w/ garden upgrade) and then seeing what they assign us when we get there. I'm sure that we could pay extra to upgrade on site if we aren't happy with the one they assign (unless they are sold out, which is unlikely these days).

The IC is running at about 35% occupancy, Just got back. Laurent, the asst. mgr, upgraded my son from a lanai to a beach bungalow, but we are 12 time repeat customers! As an Ambassador member, I now book a garden bungalow and get upgraded to premium overwater, but as I said, we've been going to the IC for twelve years and are well known by management. I'm sure you could offer to make a deal for the upgrade you want. FP tourism is hurting and hotels are empty so now is the time to get the upgrade you want. Good luck and enjoy.
