We are going to be at Le Taha'a in mid August and I am in a quandary over whether to go with the MAP for meals. At $150 each, it seems a bit pricey to me. Is it possible to eat breakfast and dinner there for less than that? I was thinking about maybe going off the motu for a dinner or two, but I'm not sure what my alternatives are in that regard. I guess basically what I would like to know is if its worth the price of $150 per day for two meals. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It really depends on how much you eat. If you are not big eaters and tend to skip some meals or will possibly want to eat some meals away from the resort then don't get the meal plan. You will save money that way.

Also...if you are not big evening eaters is much cheaper to have a late lunch and then skip dinner. I hate the late dinner times in FP. I like to have my last meal of the day around 4-ish. NOT after 7.

If you like to eat full size breakfasts and 3 course meals for dinner, then the meal plan would be fine.

Basically it's not cheap to eat there any way you slice it. But there's no point in getting the meal plan and end up paying for meals you won't be using.

And if you can order breakfast or lunch for 1 in your room, you'll likely find it's big enough for 2 (at least that's what we found at the Moorea Intercontinental when we did that...breakfast for 1 was big enough for the two of us for breakfast & lunch combined!).

You can also get a variety of foods and beverages from the local markets. We always do this to keep food costs down. Don't forget to try "Tahiti Drink". This is available in most markets and it's pretty good stuff. It can sneak up on you though!

I would be asking if free breakfasts (if not dinners too) could be included in my package.

You can get some menu information from their Web site. If you need more detail then I would suggest emailing them.

I don't think the meal plan is a big savings, even with the high prices at Le Taha'a. Even if you each eat the breakfast buffet and dinner with an appetizer, main course and dessert, the price works out to be very close to the same amount. That being said, I would go a la carte - who knows, there are days you may not be hungry and times you split an appetizer or dessert which will put you ahead in the game. What a lot of others are neglecting to consider is that Le Taha'a is on a motu and there are very limited options outside the resort for restaurant dining. Also, although there is a boat shuttle to the mainland, it is not convenient to plan on getting to a market for supplies. It would be easier to purchase them on another island with easier access and bring them with you.

Thanks for all your input. I have decided to take your advice and pass on the meal plan.

The meal plan is really only a good deal if it's included for free. If you have to pay for it, then go a la carte. At the very worse, it will end up costing about the same amount...at the best it will end up costing less... if you eat less, share portions, or eat elsewhere.

Up front, it seems convienent to have it all pre paid and you don't have to worry about the cost of meals. But...in reality you would still have charges to deal with...such as lunch items, all your drinks, etc....even if you did the pre pay meal plan.

The big bonus at Le Taha'a is that it costs no extra to get your meals delivered as room service. A big plus if you just want to hang out in your room together. We did room service every night except the seafood buffet. Talk about relaxing! We always do MAP, as we can budget alot better for the entire trip. We just like the fact that we can walk to dinner without worrying about the logistics of taxis, shuttles, timing and extra costs. But that's just what we like.
