Hi all! How is everybody???
Only 4 weeks till we go to FP for the first time, getting really excited now!
Staying at the Sofitel Moorea for two weeks and just wondered if there are any particular restaurants we should definately try, any local specialties we shouldn't miss?
I hear you can eat swordfish on the island, something I've always wanted to try! Both myself and my fiance are big meat eaters and love fish dishes in particular, is there plenty of choice?
Also does anyone know what the hotel is like for food!
Thanks in advance!

Here is my list of favorites 1.Le Mayflower French/Tahitian 2.Aito's Great Fish House Remember in FP Swordfish is called Meka and on French menues "espadon de nuit" 3. Rudy's Great Steaks 4. Le Mahogany French?tahitian/Chinese Be sure to try Poisson Cru A fish marinated in lime juice and served cold with tomatoes, onions, carrots, cucumbers, and coconut milk Since I don't stay in hotels I will let others post about the Sofitel Hotel food.

Various tyes of fish served with vanilla sauce is great! It is served at a variety of restaurants there.
Also, shrimp in curry sauce is great.
And I'll second the recommendation on the Poisson Cru. YUMMY! But...technically the fish is raw...it is "cooked" by the lime juice...sort of like the Mexican dish Ceviche. So if you aren't a sushi eater, you may not like the idea of eating raw fish...but it is fantastic!

Sounds delicious! I'll make sure we try the Poisson Cru.
Thanks Hamara, it's helpful to know what we're asking for. :)
Are there any particularly romantic restaurants on the island, it's our honeymoon so would like to arrange a special dinner somewhere one of the nights :)
Cheers!

Another food you must try is the local pineapple (my hubby hates pineapple, but loved FP pineapple!). You'll crave it forever, LOL.
I also recommend Te Honu Iti. Ask for a table overlooking the water and you can watch them feed the fish and rays in the dark (the water is lit up). Their vanilla mahi mahi was great when we ate there years ago (I'm assuming the food is still great there, but someone who's been there recently can chime in if it isn't).

Try Snack Mahana for great tuna sashimi, carpaccio, and other fresh raw tuna delights.

We like Te Honu Iti, Mayflower, Rudy's, Le Cocotier, and Aito for dinner, and the Blue Pineapple for lunch

Te Honu Iti seems to get good reviews consistantly so will definately have to try there, must remember to ask for a seat by the sea though so we can see the rays! :)
Are there any good places for cocktails on the island? I know there isn't any night life as such (doesn't bother us) but do most places serve a good drink with your meal or have a bar where you can wind down after?

If you like mixed drinks (especially tropical concoctions), you're better off mixing your own (we had several mixed drinks in FP and they were all disappointing...and very expensive!). If you like beer, have a Hinano (or a dozen, *g*)! We only drank in our resort bars so I don't have any other recommendations.

Snack Mahana is a great lunch place. It's just past the village of Papetoai on the ocean side. Te Honu Iti is a very romantic dinner restaurant. Mix your our cocktails. Buy your own booze in the duty free shops at the airports and buy your mixers or fruit juices locally
