We will be spending 7 nights at the Hilton Moorea and are debating if we should get the meal plan (breakfast & dinner)? We like the idea of the meal plan so we don't have to worry about anything (i.e. where to eat, how to get there, prices, etc...), but then part of us wants to explore the island and try restaurants.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

My suggestion is...if you are a big breakfast eater, then get the breakfast part of the plan only. If you are not a big breakfast eater, then you wll do much better to just buy a la carte and skip the pre-paid plan.

I would suggest you NOT get the dinner plan. There are far to many restaurants (with much better food than the hotel serves) that you can try for dinner. Most of the restaurants offer free transportation for you.

There's really very little advantage to buying the menu plan. The only thing the meal plan offers is convienence of not having to worry about the bill...but it is really not a savings and you are locked into eating at your hotel which normally has a somewhat limited menu...or losing the money you paid for it if you choose to eat elsewhere....or if you have late lunch and don't fee like eating dinner. There are no refunds for un-used portions on the meal plan.

Plus...the menu plan doesn't cover drinks...so you will STILL have a bill at the end of your stay.

Basically if you put aside the amount of money the meal plan costs...that wil be a fairly accurate estimate on how much money you would need to set aside to pay for your meals regardless of where you eat them.

I agree with Patti. Too many places other than the resort to eat at on Moorea. Scrap the meal plan and make reservations at places once you arrive.

In view of the locaton of the Hilton, with the nearest "store" being a 10 minute walk away, I would just get the breakfast. Eating something à la carte at the hotel in the morning will be quite expensive in comparison with a breakfast plan included and the morning buffets are pretty good. FYI if you buy breakfast seperate you'll pay around 3200 cfp 40$)

BTW check with also your TA as most hotels are giving breakfast for free nowadays !)

If you can get breakfast included free, go for it! If you're on a budget (as we are when we travel), hit the local grocery store (magasin) out the front exit to the right. You can also buy some lunch stuff there or walk to your left out the front door & go to Pension Motu Iti for lunch (great food for a reasonable price) or Aito's (pricier but great from what I've heard...we didn't go because of the prices). We tried the burger place between Motu Iti and the Hilton a year or so ago & wouldn't recommend it, by the way.

If you're budgeting, skip the plan, eat out. For breakfast, take a nice stroll to the magasin for your continental breakfast goods. If you have a car, you can load up at the supermarket near the ferry landing or any nearby magasin for croissants and fruit. It think the room includes instant coffee/tea makings. It's fun to eat a few meals at the hotel but much better to go and explore.
